The focus with this spring is to showcase three different event series that each offer a unique listening experience for folks to enjoy. My Friend... An open format long form DJ set from one act, the artist(s) will play for a minimum of 6 hours taking us on a deep dive into their collection of music and range in style. The series seeks to shed light on music that doesn’t get to see the light of day, records that one wouldn’t bring to an hour or two set, and to give us an opportunity to settle into the music. Photosynthesis... A series focused on live experimental electronica with a wide range of emotions and energies. In the past the shows have been curated with artists who specialize in synths, modular, indie bands, acoustic sessions, free jazz, poetic blends and even some dance floor moments. Photosynthesis takes a collaborative approach to curating with 7 Los Angeles music fiends who have a knack for connecting artists and organizing. Substrate... is a deep listening series that aims to bring up questions like: is this ambient? is this techno? is this IDM? What am I? Substrate is about hypnotic grooves and breaks that sit on subdued emotions, subterranean vibes and earthy tones. Feel inspired by bleeps, bloops, stabs and pads that push the mind into introspective spaces. Substrate is also a collaborative series working with local organizers and deep techno minded artists to showcase talented performers in this field. This time bringing out Acid Camp founder Aaron Davis and Los Angeles Acid Camp representative and resident DJ Ms.Ed for an extended back to back open format DJ set. LINK IN BIO TO RSVP Acid Camp is a staple when one is reminiscing on the glory days of daytime parties in LA. Foundational to the techno, house and acid scene, merch and discography is seen far and wide. Putting together a daytime hang with these two selectors representing some real LA history feels full circle, can’t wait to hear what they’ll play for us. @jumpsource All Night for WC 007 - Our first sold out show with the incredible @canarytest team @ppatrickholland and @priori_tize guided us for six and a half hours, from early haze into the late night, seamlessly weaving genres and serving bespoke bangers to a packed dance floor. My Friend… Mesmé (@findingmesme ) One week from Today! Sunday / April 12th, 4:00pm - 10:00 pm / The Loft @ Psstudio I am very pleased to bring Mesmé out to play a long form DJ set as part of her Hi-Fi tour, playing on the @mobius_acoustics sound system and Klipsch. Mesmé has been a powerful force in the LA techno scene for a decade, having come here from the Midwest pursuing music she was born in Iran and raised in Singapore. Lots to say about Mesmé and her history here, getting tapped in early with into the woods, the vinyl community, hosting her own parties and lounge room listening events. Thrilled to have had her play for our parties in the past like our New Years Eve party, Anemone’s first 12 hour all nighter, and Grotto. Mesmé is a versatile selector who is a guaranteed good time for a peak time techno set, bringing acid, Detroit techno, and pulsing psychedelic energy. Something I haven’t had the pleasure of hearing from her yet as I feel it predates my time in LA, is her lounge sets. This series emphasizes an opportunity to pull those gems you don’t get to consider when you’ve got only an hour or two and the director is clear, bringing the energy. Now we get to listen to Mesmé in a form she’s all too comfortable with. Expect sultry dub techno, sexy lounge, down tempo and electronica. We’re bringing back @nothingburgerla !
