Four composers who abandoned traditional notation.
In 1957, Daphne Oram drew sound before it existed.
In 1958, John Cage removed authorship from composition.
In 1961, Pauline Oliveros mapped vocal chaos without words.
In 1963, Cornelius Cardew wrote 193 pages with no instructions.
We translated their experimental processes into wearable research—two-layer dyed shirts where each application responds to the last.
Every shirt is one-of-one.

Beyond Notation. An ongoing research project exploring works that exist between image and sound, instruction and interpretation. Between 1957 and 1969, four composers abandoned traditional notation. They created visual systems. Maps for the unmappable. Instructions for organized chaos. Each shirt is created through a two-layer dye process—successive applications where the second layer responds to the first. The method parallels our subjects: composers who built systems that embraced chance within structure. Every shirt is one-of-one. Website live. Shirts available now. Link in bio.
