THANK YOU LAABF! 🥹 Thank you @printedmatter_artbookfairs for choosing my lil press as a recipient of the Shannon Michael Cane Award. I would have never made it all the way to LA without it 💌 I've had such a wonderful experience tabling at the bookfair, meeting new people and discovering new work. So many cool exhibitors, such good vibes. My heart is full! And I'm still riding the LA wave with a pitstop at the ONE Archives where I donated my zine collection and did some research about Drag Queens publications. Will do another post about this later. LA is WILD and I have felt so very welcomed by every single person I met 🫶 I couldn't take so many photos of other people's booths bc I tabled alone so here's a lil shout out section to some v cool exhibitors I've met at the fair: @three6sashiaa thank you sm for the massive trade. So honored to meet you and feeling a lot of kinship in our work digging up and caring for queer archives. Jeff & Gabriel from @unitypress for the warmest hug, 10 years later. @notranslation.wav & @marchaelmerza for being the best neighbors, offering me tea and to watch my table. @mattazine_society my newfound queer punx zine siblings. @rubenesparza669 for the amazing drawing and the other Lost & Found booth for the best music throughout the fair. All the @printedmatterinc ppl that took time to come to my booth and say hi. @secret_riso_club for the cutest after party at @zizou_losangeles . @scannnersarchive for accepting my zines. @shadowbannedmagazine & @cmxxiv.publishing for the most wonderful post fair dinner. @kittybugpress for the cutest prints and stickers. @valeriej.bower for the sweetest encounter and beautiful work. Cari from the letterpress studio at the fair for stopping by with friends. @f1lmfomo for the zine and keeping queer punx alive. @kelly_marie_martin for bringing the riot grrrl vibes. @lando_chill for all the drag queen research tips. @mag_and_mov with the cool vintage smut. @ladycotton.online for jetlag solidarity. @toolboxdyke & @sybilpress for the love. And so many more!!! And ofc thank you so much to all the wonderful visitors for engaging with my work so thoughtfully. Got to meet some very cool people!!! xoxo

What a crazy weekend! I haven’t been personal joy posting so it’s time for a bit of that. I’m pleasantly surprised and honored at all the interest and appreciation around the installation @printedmatter_artbookfairs Thank you @__s.gp @sun__pix for the inclusion and invitation. These fairs always inject me with so much inspiration and new friendship. My brain is mush but my heart is full. I appreciate all your conversations and kinship. I believe it’s important to spotlight and platform queer life in print past and contemporary. You cannot gate keep history and we have to view things with a critical eye to create better versions of ourselves and representation. Thank you so much daddy @neon_cream for the leather banner @adx__studio & @burst_city83 for your hard work, talent and true love @mattazine_society @j0setin0c0 @marktimothyhayward @molliekatrinaunderwood for helping me install and @irrelevantpress for having my back always thank you @meta.hearse3000 & @a_a1or for giving me vending breaks 💟💟💟 I’m nothing without everyone who loves me and sees me Until next time ⏰ I LOVE YOU LOS ANGELES MY HOMETOWN

Independent publishing is all about creating a “public.” Here are some of many exhibitors at the LA Art Book Fair who take a more emphatic or experimental approach to connecting with their community and building new audiences, whether through networks of diaspora, education initiatives like printing workshops, open studio hours, lectures and discussions, social justice organizing, or expanded collaborations with other publishers.
