Coming soon later this year is an experimental riso zine by @riotb0nes that we're excited to publish and collaborate on: Flesh and Ivory 🗡️🩸 🫀 Flesh and Ivory is an experimental zine that serves as a personal meditation on gender, sexuality, and religion, in which the 'sacred' becomes a site of terror and revulsion, and redemption is instead discovered through the 'profane': in flesh and sin and all other earthly desires. We're eager to let you all have a sneak peek into one of our most exciting projects this year! Bones' work is compelling, intense, and beautiful. The cover is printed in Cornflower, Bright Red, Yellow, and Black riso ink on 147gsm paper. Riotbones is a queer Filipino illustrator and comic artist with a passion for all things haunting, dark, and tender. Filipino Risograph Duplicate Archive is currently sold out but we will begin printing the second edition next month and opening online orders. 🤍 🦋 This was truly a tribute to our small publishing community in the Philippines who greatly contributed to shaping our practice in Kittybug and we still can’t believe the lecture turnout and support for our work. New zine debuting at LA Art Book Fair: Sari-Sari Store by @kaninrices 🧺🇵🇭 In Tagalog, the word sari-sari translates to "variety" or "sundry." Sari-sari stores are a staple of Filipino neighborhoods, providing everyday goods at accessible prices. Despite the recent popularity of franchise convenience stores, they're often considered a third space and are an essential part of Filipino culture and community. The zine features several items commonly sold at sari-sari stores, alongside personal anecdotes of childhood memories associated with these items. The cover was printed in Bright Red, Medium Blue, and Sunflower riso inks on 167gsm paper, while the pages are printed in Federal Blue riso ink on 5 variations of colored paper (pink, green, orange, yellow, blue). The format of the zine is inspired by the sachet packets that usually hang from the ceilings of the stores, while the colors call back to the vibrant signages that adorn the storefronts. Third World Duplication: Archiving Filipino Risograph Duplicate Ephemera presented by Kittybug Press (@annasshole @kaninrices @mchmrmnd ) for @printedmatter_artbookfairs LA Art Book Fair’s The Classroom. This will dive deep into Filipino Risograph Duplicate Archive (2025) zine and also includes a short history of Filipino small publishing, interviews with Filipino archival projects (@sachetarchives @type63_ @laborarchive.ph ), interviews with local print shop blessings by @butikinababoy , and a live Q&A session with former student media activist Micah Rimando and her use of riso. We will mainly discuss why the risograph is invaluable to Manila print shops and the overarching importance of archiving print ephemera in the Third World. Find it exclusively at our table K11 at @printedmatter_artbookfairs LA Art Book Fair from May 7-10 in Art Center Pasadena While english translations can’t fully say its true meaning, Baklang Tomboy’s name roughly comes from the tagalog term of “Bakla” for gay man (used sometimes with trans women) and “Tomboy” which is slang for for masc-presenting women (used interchangeably for lesbians). Baklang Tomboy is a nuanced and comedic autobio zine on Tommy’s journey of transitioning to a gay man as he explores his gender and sexuality through media, falling in love, and more while navigating Filipino society’s strict gender binaries.
