~~~ New symbols & letters as we move forward, designed by Kristian Henson @kristian_henson Excited to share this new partnership/collaboration 🌞 ✨✨✨ Kristian Henson (Filipino-American, b. 1981, Los Angeles) is a designer, director and publisher based in Muntinlupa, focused on working in collaboration with artists, photographers and art institutions with a primary focus on The Philippines and the Filipino diaspora. In 2013 he co-founded the publishing imprint Hardworking Goodlooking with Clara Balaguer as a means of researching and circulating concepts such as social-practice art making, decolonization in design, vernacular typography, cyber folkways and local print culture. Their work has been featured in a range of talks, workshops and residencies in spaces such as The Walker Art Center, MoMA PS1, Swiss Institute, Printed Matter, Gwangju Biennale, 356 Mission, Ulises, CCA, Parsons, Pratt, VCU and Central Saint Martins. Henson has a BFA from Art Center and a MFA from Yale University School of Art. Transplanting from New York City to Metro Manila full-time in 2021, his studio continues to expand into applying theory and experience toward personal / commercial projects both locally and abroad.
Half the record is light and uplifting with soulful piano. The other half is hypnotic and deep with 303 acid lines and masterful drumwork. Wouldn’t expect anything less from the Chicago legend.
We are a few days away from our listening event this Sunday with Philipp Otterbach ☄️ We are excited to include Errorbesque on the line up who will be doing live visuals all evening ~~~~~~ Errorbesque is a cross-disciplinary artist with active practices in dance, illustration, generative visuals, costuming, and set design. Often collaborating with dancers and musicians, he uses various visual mediums for analyzing and extending the expression of their performance. He is particularly interested in glitch as a metadata layer that can both contribute and degrade information.” For opening support we have Night School, the extracurricular gathering of DJ NFS, Matt Brownell, and Matt Sussman for third mind exploration. Capacity is limited so come early! Don’t forget to bring cushions for extra relaxation ~~~~~~~ +Philipp Otterbach +Nightschool +viz by Errorbesque Doors 6p 5.10.2026 Sunday Green Room at The Crown 2523 Broadway, Oakland $15 NOTAFLOF
Tomorrow join us for an intimate listening party at the shop as we are excited to share the first vinyl pressing of Marc Leclair’s (aka Akufen) Musique pour 3 femmes enceintes released on ISC Hi-Fi Selects + streaming via Community Music Group. 5/7 Thurs 7p Opening set by Izaak S playing adjacent sounds followed by a full listen of the album at 8p From In Sheep’s Clothing Hi-Fi: First issued on CD in the early 2000s, Musique pour 3 femmes enceintes (Music for Three Pregnant Women) now returns in a new edition from In Sheep’s Clothing Hi-Fi, appearing on vinyl for the first time as a double LP. The record is being pressed in Detroit at Archer Record Pressing, the historic plant behind deep-groove classics by Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Underground Resistance, UR’s Jeff Mills, and J Dilla. Listeners who know the Montreal-based Leclair through his better-known work as Akufen might be surprised by the tone here. During the same years he was shaping the intricate micro-sampling tracks that made Akufen a cult figure on labels including Perlon, Force Inc. and Trapez, Leclair was quietly developing this far more personal project. The meticulous craftsmanship remained the same, though the focus shifted from the hyper-detailed cut-up rhythms of his dance records toward something slower and more atmospheric. The new In Sheep’s Clothing Hi-Fi edition finally presents the record in the format Leclair long imagined. “I always thought that record deserved a vinyl edition,” he says. Spread across two LPs, the music now has room to unfold at its natural pace. More than twenty years after it first appeared, Musique pour 3 femmes enceintes remains what it was from the start: a carefully shaped meditation on transformation and the quiet miracle of life beginning.
