“RAT KING” BBC New Creatives x ICA Current Transmissions 2022 Performance & Choreography by me. Concept & Story by myself, Sarah Spencer, Luke Wintour & Donna Marcus. This piece and concept is still ever so relevant, perhaps more than ever… exploring the futility and danger of nationalism. Full film: https://ica.art/digital/cinema-3/watch/rat-king-watch Synopsis: A lone musician plays a tune on a tuba. Two characters are transfixed by a maypole and the distant sound of Jerusalem. As they become entangled in its ribbons, they grapple with-each other on a journey to England’s edges. In a distant retelling of folk tales and the urban legend of the ‘Rat King’, the film explores the myths and stories which create English nationalism. On their journey through ‘Englishness’, the characters are faced with two conflicting desires: community and exclusion. Credits: Director - Luke Wintour Producer - Emma Langguth and Luke Wintour Executive Producers - Shane O’Sullivan and Nikta Mohammadi Concept and Story - Luke Wintour, Stephanie Burrell, Sarah Spencer, Donna Marcus Composer and Sound Designer - Sarah Spencer Writer - Donna Marcus Movement Director - Stephanie Burrell Performed by - Donna Marcus and Stephanie Burrell Tuba Player - Hanna Mbuya Cinematographer - Emma Langguth 1st AC - Sinan Yilmaz 2nd AC - George Tasmis Gaffer - Ben Vacher Spark - Jo Savage Costume and Design - Ellie Wintour Costume Supervisor - Sophie Lincoln Art Department Assistant - Jazzy Cohen Sound Recordist - Alex Rugman Editor - Luke Wintour Colourist - Jamie Lloyd at RM Studios
