What does Berlin’s Tempelhofer Feld have to do with a footpath and a garden in Illinois? Matthew Newlin takes you on a journey through his childhood memories and talks about the preparations for his role debut as Siegmund – via Linktree in bio! Experience the tenor in DIE WALKÜRE on 17 and 27 May at the Deutsche Oper Berlin – under the musical direction of Sir Donald Runnicles, featuring Tobias Kehrer, Jordan Shanahan, Elisabeth Teige, Annika Schlicht, Trine MĂžller, Martina Welschenbach, Felicia Moore, Maria Motolygina, Aleksandra Meteleva, Arianna Manganello, Karis Tucker, Nicole Piccolomini, Lauren Decker, Eric Naumann, Extras, Chorus and Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. All info and tickets at deutscheoperberlin.de – also via Linktree in bio! // For over a quarter of a century, Richard Wagner worked on his “magnum opus”, DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN (The Ring of the Nibelung): from the carefree frolics of the Rhine maidens to the apocalyptic downfall of the gods’ hall, Valhalla, this 15-hour Gesamtkunstwerk sees beginning and end merge into one. Director Stefan Herheim tells this endless story of the rise and fall of ideas and worldviews for us, driven by a theatrical delight in performance. Of a man who set out to learn fear: In the third instalment of the RING tetralogy, we meet Siegfried, a superhero as radiant and brimming with power as he is fearless and irreverent, who without further ado forges a sword, uses it to slay the dragon guarding the Ring, puts the Wanderer (aka Wotan) in his place, frees the captive BrĂŒnnhilde and wins her for himself. Who or what is to stop him? SIEGFRIED on 23 May at the Deutsche Oper Berlin – under the musical direction of Sir Donald Runnicles, featuring Clay Hilley, Ya-Chung Huang, Iain Paterson, Michael Sumuel, Tobias Kehrer, Lauren Decker, Elisabeth Teige, soloists from the Boys’ Chorus of the Dortmund Chorus Academy, and the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The myth of ‘forever young’ and the longing for longevity preoccupy and drive many people. Yet growing older is not for the faint-hearted. Composer Asia Ahmetjanova is collaborating with director Franziska Angerer on an installation-based music theatre piece exploring old age, the experience of physical decline, and death as a taboo. Through a spatial meditation featuring mythological figures, the primal material of clay, and performers, ENDLICH examines how we deal with the ageing process and our relationship with the end. Following its world premiere on 10 May as part of the Munich Biennale, ENDLICH is coming straight to Berlin, where it will celebrate its premiere on 22 May, with further performances on 26/28/29/30 May 2026. Info and tickets on deutscheoperberlin.de – accessible also via Linktree in bio. Under the baton of Leonard Weiss, featuring Constanze Jader, Lana Maletić, Jens Ginge Skov, Eberhard Delius, Anke Drescher, Ziv Frenkel, Edeltraut Lettow, JĂŒrgen Linneweber, Alexander Nagel, VAL and Armin Dallapiccola, as well as musicians from ensemble mosaik Berlin. @asia.ahmetjanova @aussieconductor @franziska_angerer_ @camuedo @mirjam_stae @sabrina.bosshard @hanusasebastian @constanzejader @lanamaletich @jensgingeskov_countertenor @betterwieser @io_mi_muovo @chatschaturkanaja @ernst_surberg @rolandneffe @elli.neubert @stadtmuenchen @muenchenerbiennale @prohelvetia A co-production of the Munich Biennale and Deutsche Oper Berlin. Walk like an Eqyptian: In George Frideric Handel’s GIULIO CESARE IN EGITTO, we follow historical figures into a world of imperial power struggles and intercultural (romantic) relationships: in Egypt, the Roman general Julius Caesar finds himself caught between the fronts of a succession dispute and, (also) for love, sides with Cleopatra. David McVicar’s Glyndebourne production presents this dramma per musica with British humour and baroque theatrical effects, making for a refreshingly entertaining and choreographically dynamic performance. The next performances are on 1/3/10 May, 5/8 July 2026. Info and tickets on our website deutscheoperberlin.de – accessible also via Linktree in bio! Under the baton of Alessandro Quarta with Christophe Dumaux, Elena Tsallagova, Stephanie Wake-Edwards, Martina Baroni, Cameron Shahbazi / Francis Gush, Michael Sumuel, Edu Rojas and Jared Werlein alongside the Opera ballet, Chorus and Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. #Baroque #Caesar #Cleopatra #Love @garethmole @markruddick @q.alessandro @christophe_dumaux_officiel @elena_tsallagova @stephalanaray @baroni_martina @cameron.shahbazi @francis.gush @mbsum @edu.rojas.countertenor @jaredmacwerlein @statisterie_der_deutschen_oper @chor_der_deutschen_oper_berlin @orchester_deutsche_oper_berlin @glyndebourne @taz.die_tageszeitung @rbb A production of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
