the rocky horror show - which i started thinking about almost exactly eight years ago today - opens tonight on broadway at studio 54. all i feel today is thanks, from the deepest place i can access, to every single person who has ever come near it.
thanks to the lady who came up to me at intermission of the fourth preview and said “this is terrible and i am having a wonderful time!” thanks to the alien ancestors and thanks to richard o’brien for giving the world a thing bigger than any one of us.
one thing i’ve learned making rocky horror is that absolutely everyone has a piece of advice for you. so here’s mine: when the world is terrible, get some great people together and try to create a new one.
we have been in the mines trying to make a wicked act of love called the rocky horror show and the most joyous part of that - of which there are so many - is meeting 1000 new people every night who come to studio 54 with their own histories. whether they know every word of the show or are just unsuspecting subscribers who were hoping to see a play about two nice young kids. i’ve so far loved just about every second of making this show in this room with these people and all these damn ghosts, but it’s the collision of experiences that has lit me up the most in these last few weeks. i wish i could photograph everyone who walks through the door but that would be creepy as hell. luckily brilliant @instadickie caught a few over the weekend. hello from the middle of previews. i’m sorry i haven’t responded to your email. if you need me come find me in the back.

my new favorite IATSE guy told me i use too many exclamation marks. highlights of rocky horror so far include — oops, actually every human involved is in fact a highlight. how on earth did that happen. i fucked up my knee dancing to peaches and have no regrets. tech this week, performances very soon. also: gods bless the amazing humans of @nycrhps and all of the incredible people who keep rocky alive // are kept alive by rocky — including the very nice stranger in the frank n furter sweatshirt on the L train who had a lot of questions i could in fact not answer. feeling very grateful to be connected by alien past alien present alien future, and quite lucky to be able to care.
