More video! If you've seen our installation at the airport and wondered how the hell we did it, this video is for you. We are delighted to share this behind-the-artwork footage so you can really see the efforts of this communal project. Starting with our most important resource, Of Coverlets, which served as the touchstone for how to properly honor Tennessee Craft through the medium of Coverlet weaving. We are grateful to the authors for capturing such an important part of Tennessee history. From there, you can see wristband color selection and production, working with Jonathan Malphrus @stericdesign on the engineering of this beast, @mesa_tn constructing our armature, the meticulous labor of weaving production by over 25 weavers, installation and of course the finished piece in situ. INTRODUCING: “Bodega That Only Sells Things Starting with the Letter P”, a conceptual tile design for Part 2 of our Powell HQ surface design collaboration. @kt.vance wanted to create something special for the front of the kitchen/bar area and entrance to the hallway. We liked that it looked like a storefront with window service so we ran with that idea and made it tongue-in-cheek by creating illustrations of objects that start with P to glaze onto the tile. Making this list of P-word options with Powell was probably the most fun part! As ever, we called upon the great @redrocktileworks to help us realize this idea. They helped us with the glaze transfers for the illustrations and custom matched a glaze to the Powell peach brand color. We finished out the palette by calling upon that rich glossy burgundy tile as a compliment with accents of the Wasabi green stripe and our favorite detail, the vermillion pencil corner tile to border the openings of the “storefront”. We love this blend of classic but slightly strange. INTRODUCING: Powell Project Palettes When it came time for @powellnashville to add some conceptual decoration to their new HQ, we were so delighted they called upon us to be part of their iconic new building in Berry Hill. Katie and Luke wanted something bold and unique that represented the work they do in hospitality. After a fun round of initial design, project palettes was born. This wallcovering reflects a huge portion of the Powell portfolio. Each palette or poster utilizes the colors and identifying shapes of each of their beautiful design/build projects complete with a few empty spaces for all they have in store. Maybe your project can make it on the Powell wall of fame?! From a technical standpoint, it was a doozy to get this geometric mural to align with precision from ceiling to wall. Thankful for our installers and @davidmeaney for making the install perfect! From the airport wall to your home! Get your hands on this beautiful set of tea towels based on New Hat’s 177’, hand-woven art installation, Twine with my Mingles. The artwork is inspired by historic Tennessee coverlet patterns made from concert wristbands and is permanently installed in the new Concourse D extension at the Nashville International Airport. In an world of disposable digital “creative”, Nashville-based surface design studio New Hat stands apart by incorporating remarkably well-crafted design into everyday spaces. The 8x180’ installation, ‘Twine With My Mingles’, marries historic Tennessee craft with an unexpected yet perfectly suited material – concert wristbands. Huge thanks to Elizabeth Williams and David Meaney for giving StagePilot a peek into the mind-bending task of weaving mountains of wristbands into such a beautiful piece of art.

So excited to FINALLY share proper captures of one of the most immersive residential custom wallpapers we’ve ever done! This beautiful family wanted to honor their history of place through a scenic mural capturing everything from grandparents home to time spent living abroad as well as special pets past and present on thier current epic farm property. On top of that, we got to create our first ceiling mural of a gradient sunset/rise to night time sky featuring two birds of prey. Which colorway do you like best?? We’ve been revisiting our wallpaper collab with @marykathrynwells.design and remembered the 3 fun color options we created for her to choose from. It’s always wild to see how much the color can change the vibe. Take a look at the wallpaper panels and in context mockups and let us know which colorway you’d choose.

INTRODUCING: Vinyardism ❤️‍🔥💞🍭 A custom large scale collaged wallpaper comprised of artwork from the Vinyard family. We were VERY excited when @marykathrynwells.design approached us to create a custom “kid’s art” wallpaper for her home renovation. Creating something like this has been on the New Hat bucket list for quite some time. MKW was the perfect collaborator, not only due to her love of color, pattern, and wallpaper, but also because she saved *hundreds* of drawings, paintings, collages and doodles from all 3 children over the years, and we had a shared vision of collaging them together to make something that was beyond the individual drawings themselves. We call the wallpaper Vinyardism as it is their family’s art style or movement, if you will. We helped take these life long creative experiments and turn them into fine art for the wall that will inspire for many years to come. . Let us turn your family’s keepsakes into art for your walls. . @dozenbakerynashville has always been a tremendously special place for New Hat. If it weren’t for @cmeneely asking me if I could make a wallpaper for the OG Dozen bathroom in 2015, then I wouldn’t have asked @kellycdiehl to collab and therefore New Hat may never have been born! So, it felt very special to get to make wallpaper for teenage Dozen as teenage New Hat! We’ve learned a great many things about wallpaper since 2015. A few things remained the same about this paper though: handpainted backgrounds with the special @kellycdiehl touch, HANDS as theme, and @grandpalace_nashville on the silkscreen! The new things about Hands 2.0: an early morning photo trip to Dozen to capture photographs of bakers hands as reference imagery for the illustrations, giant brush invention by @davidmeaney , gorgeous hand illustrations by @kevinb_reilly , and we printed on rolls instead of sheets this time! There are also 4 restrooms now and we decided to create 4 distinct colorways: Bread and Butter, Jam, Lettuces & Dozen blue. Very proud of this version of Dozen and its wallpaper. I love our community and the history we are creating. 💙 Rumor has it we may be able to have this wallpaper design available as a tea towel for you in the future! .
