TWO SILVERS FOR SYRIA! 🇸🇾🥈🥈 Last week I competed at Copa América in Lima, Peru, bringing home two silvers in the 6km and 23km endurance events, Syria’s first rowing medals in international competition. This moment is bigger than just me. I’m rowing to show the pride and resilience of Syrian people and the Syrian diaspora, to honor Syrian athletes like @ghadashouaa (Syria’s only Olympic gold medalist who won in heptathlon in 1996), and to inspire the next generation of Syrian athletes, especially women and girls. Rowing has changed my life for the better in a thousand and one ways, and I want those opportunities to be available to more Syrian people. The ocean is humbling and wildly beautiful. I raced 23km over waves as tall as walls with @rrrusty101 , @tb_row , @nathanmcdaniel127 , and @tashmae__ , and 6km in our United Nations boat: the incredible @_william_mj_ from Ecuador, @thalita_rowing and @fernandanunesoly from @remobrasil , @tashmae__ from Malaysia, and yours truly in bow. I’ll always remember that race as the time I learned the joy and power of surfing waves.
