I sometimes can’t believe how much music I am so fortunate to be a part of making — but this year has been truly insane. Amongst all of the many things I’m so grateful for, this record I made with @kevinmorby has truly kept me company in ways that I have not often experienced in my life. I have been a fan of Kevin — ever since @bradleywcook introduced us on a street in the east village over a decade ago. This past year we finally had a chance to gather and see what music and magic we could conjure together.
I remember so many magical moments from the making of Little Wide Open— which is truly one of the best records I’ve had the honor of being in the room to help make (I urge you to listen listen listen!!) — but one stands out in particular. On our second day at Long Pond Kevin sat on the couch and played me Natural Disaster on an acoustic guitar. I was stunned by the power and iconic imagery in it ....but I couldn’t help but wonder what direction we should take with a song that is nearly 8 minutes long, had just two (sometimes three) chords and no chorus🤪❤️. Like all the songs on this record — I leaned into my first instinct which was to foreground Kevin’s brilliant lyricism and the narrative in each song — I’ve taken to calling him our Steinbeckian Dust Bowl narrator as the songs are so beautifully set in the far midwestern landscape where he comes from — there were implied melodies and rhythms in each song that came out in my hands so naturally the whole way through. It was truly life affirming to have this brilliant record unfold in the Long Pond air this way. Several hours later Natural Disaster was fully formed — and I had played my favorite and longest guitar solo I’ve ever had the chance to play :) I got to play all my favorite instruments on this record, drums and bass and guitars and piano and more — and @bellaicecream as always captured it all so brilliantly and went on to mix much of this record beautifully along with the incredible @heyjonlow who mixed a group of songs as well…continued in comments…
Beside myself with excitement that “Hit the Wall” is out tonight. This was the song @gracieabrams and I wrote one day — when we were literally hitting a wall creatively — that broke through and brought everything else into focus. “Face to face with every girl that I try to play”....Gracie you’re a genius and I’m so grateful for all the trust you put in me to help excavate these songs. Thanks to all the friends who helped make this song what it is....first and foremost @bellaicecream .…and @boniver for sprinkling your strange magic and @brycedessner for insane orchestration and @900x for all your nimble ways and @lanzprojects for fairy dust. Sooooooo much more for you all to hear so soon. I can’t quite believe it.
“Daughter from Hell” is out July 17th
So so so so so beyond excited to share that @gracieabrams ’ 3rd album, “Daughter from Hell”, is out July 17 everywhere. The first single, “Hit the Wall”, is out this Thursday night!! I can’t believe it’s been 6 years since Gracie and I started making songs together. I’m deeply grateful for every song we have made and the way we have kept challenging ourselves and growing together as collaborators and friends, sometimes hitting the wall, and then pushing and breaking through. It has been such a journey since we began working on Daughter from Hell two years ago. We started on the same day that we recorded That’s So True and I Told You Things at @electricladystudios in New York - multiple songs on this album were made in that time. Since then we have searched and searched for songs in Long Pond, in London and back at Electric Lady. You’ll hear us expanding our musical vocabulary and pushing into uncharted waters sonically, and most of all the sharpening and deepening of Gracie’s lyricism and expression in ways that continue to astound me. I believe this album contains absolutely the most moving and powerful work we have done together — it feels elevated in every way — and I can’t WAIT until you all get to hear it. We will share more details soon on all the dear friends who helped us along the way.

I’m so happy to share that @hudson.ingram has released an ep, “The Long Way Home (Vol. 1)”, today that we worked on together at Long Pond. I’m so excited for Hudson and all the music and adventures that are ahead of him. Thanks to @sydneyrosemusic_ for joining us on “Don’t Get Me Started” and to @jackschrepferman & @adammelchor for all their work on this music. Thank you to @charliechristi for all your incredible support and to @straightxnarrow for helping see me see this through. And special thanks as always to @bellaicecream for capturing and mixing this music so brilliantly.
I'm so excited to share that @noahkahanmusic 's new album "The Great Divide" is finally out in the world today. I feel so grateful and honored to have played a part in writing and recording this record with Noah. When Noah first came to long pond as winter fell in November 2024, both of us were unsure what we might uncover together -- Noah was burnt out from years of touring and feeling unsure of how songs and ultimately a record might take shape. We made Porch Light in a few hours of that first day at Long Pond and didn't look back until the sounds of crickets waning in the last days of August the next year.
I'm so grateful to Noah for trusting me to help him find and shape some of these songs -- he is one of the most talented artists I have ever encountered. @bellaicecream and I would often have our jaws on the floor quietly listening to Noah and a lot of the time I was just trying to get out of the way so Noah's mind could go where it needed to go. We made many songs together over the last year and a half, some of which are on this absolutely brilliant record alongside the incredible work of @gabesimonsays and @itscarriek .
I find the emotional resonance and honesty of Noah's writing deeply cathartic and important -- he is shining a light on ways in which we all struggle internally and in dialogue and sometimes conflict with family and friends -- I can't tell you how many times my own kids have smiled at me when they hear Noah sing, "they can all fuck up they want, and blame it all on their dad" …somehow it brings us closer every time we hear it.
I'm so grateful to know Noah and count him as a dear friend and collaborator and I can't wait to make more music together in the years ahead.
Thank you to every single person who touched this record -- and especially Bella, Gabe, Carrie, Brandon, Drew, Ben, Grant and Ryan for the heavy lifting. And thank you to my old buddy Justin (@boniver ) for sprinkling his elusive magic on a few of these songs. I'm so excited for you all to live with this record.
Please welcome my new single Badlands into the universe. I am immensely proud of this one. Recording this was cathartic and felt like a breakthrough while in the studio in many ways. I cried the day we recorded this….I was in my feels! Please listen to this loud loud LOUD.
Incredible cast of characters on this one, of course Mr Aaron Dessner and the incredible Bella Blasko, mixed by wizard Jon Low, Andrew Barr on drums, Amelia Meath and Justin Vernon as tornado sirens abound! 📢📢📢 🌪️🌪️🌪️
Wonderful lyric video by the great @renacjohnson with visuals by my guy @tito_fuego
Happy spring time! ENJOY XOXO 🌻🌻🌻
I was incredibly inspired and honored to participate in last night's celebration of the 30th anniversary of the vital work of @democracynow in Riverside Church alongside the shows co-hosts Amy Goodman, Juan Gonzalez and Nermeen Shaikh -- and @michaelstipe@springsteen and @thisispattismith@hurrayfortheriffraff and many brilliant activists and authors.
Democracy Now is a daily independent news show that works to document injustice around the world from a progressive perspective, including the rampant civil and human rights abuses of the current US administration, and the ongoing climate disaster and destruction of our planet. Their work is sadly more vital today that ever before. Please visit to learn more and consider supporting their incredible work.
I’m so incredibly excited that “Porch Light” is out today, the first song @noahkahanmusic and I wrote and recorded together. Noah first came to Long Pond in December 2024 after having been on tour forever behind Stick Season. He was pretty tired and burnt out from life on the road — a feeling I can deeply relate to — so we thought we might just hang out that day and not make music at all, unsure if any songs were to be found. Somehow within a few minutes of Noah walking in the door of Long Pond, Porch Light started to emerge and we completed it that very day.
Having had my fair share of mental health struggles and tough times (alongside a lot of support from family and friends), I could relate to every word. It felt fated that this would be the first of many songs we would make together over the last year. Noah’s fearlessness in writing about his internal struggles is incredibly courageous and important — he’s an absolutely brilliant musician and writer creating deeply personal and relatable songs — all of the new music we made (and that Noah made also with the amazing Gabe Simon and Carrie K) has kept me company and lifted my spirits every single day over the last year and I can’t wait for you all to hear it.
Many thanks as always to @bellaicecream for helping us capture these sounds so brilliantly — and to @gabesimonsays , @itscarriek , @nina.dv , @androidbarr and @actuallydylanjones helping us finish ultimately in Nashville. Many thanks also to @ryanhewittmix for his brilliant mix. And to @drewsimmons , @ben_adelson & @straightxnarrow for helping making all of this happen. Porch Light was the beginning of a collaboration I hope will continue for a long time. The Great Divide will absolutely blow your minds when you finally hear the whole thing in April!
I have a new song out in the world today called Die Young.
It is my favorite song off of Little Wide Open and the one that I was most excited about while writing and recording.
Die Young was born out of melody I wrote during a soundcheck and carried around with me for a few years. A song I chiselled away at, little by little, always putting it back in my pocket, excited to take it out later. I’m really happy where it ended up.
A lot of this album is me reflecting on my time spent on the road as an adult. Being a touring musician as a career has made for a wonderful but often complicated lifestyle and in so many ways has proven to be pretty dangerous. And thus, a love song; to the road, my romantic partnership, and my many travel companions over the years.
Mat Davidson (who performs under the name Twain) plays fiddle on the song. I’ve been a big fan of his work for a long time, so it’s an honor to have him. Aaron’s on bass, banjo, and guitar and Andrew Barr is on drums. Mixed by Jon Low!
Also: I snuck my friend “Caleb”s name into the song and there’s also a nod to one of my favorite David Berman lines. Two easter eggs tucked away in there somewhere; can you find them?
Enjoy XO :)
