The second release from Ojas Music—Elyria Sound is a solo guitar album from Michael A. Muller, recorded and mixed via analog tape during a winter storm. Each piece was captured live in single passes to a one-inch tape machine, the most direct path from fingertip to magnetic oxide. Elyria Sound was developed with experimental guitar tunings, yielding a relearning the instrument’s language. The outcome moves between lullaby and lament: spare, cyclical compositions where motifs recur at differing angles and tempos, variations on a central thread. Recorded and mixed by the multi Grammy award-winning engineer Jonathan Low, the album was mastered to tape with lacquer cut in Germany by Frederic Stader. The release partners with The Vinyl Factory; plated and pressed at the former-EMI plant on the outskirts of London. “Rectangles and Circumstance” won a Grammy for best Chamber Music / Small Ensemble Performance. I count myself lucky to make music with extraordinary artists across many genres - it’s a rare and beautiful thing to collaborate so freely and for the work to be acknowledged in this way is humbling to say the least.
