Listen to ‘June’s a River (feat. @benhoward_ & @thisisthekit )’ and watch the new video directed by @michaelbrowndesign  at the link in our bio. “I recorded the music for June's a River the same day that I recorded "Birch" - both to beats that @postmoderndrummer had sent me, and both at a time when I was feeling pretty down. The music feels evergreen and meditative to me and I found myself getting lost in the circular melody for hours on end. My brother @brycedessner played guitar to this song fairly early, leaning into and harmonizing the melody. I had the pleasure of collaborating with @benhoward_ on his recent incredible record Collections from the White Out -- and he arrived at Long Pond from overseas one night when I was working on this music. He sat quietly on the couch writing and then asked if he could sing something. Ben sang in these words on the first take that night, exactly as they are now. It was stunning to see a song magically appear this way and again this is why I make Big Red Machine music: the unexpected musical chemistry you find with friends in the moment. Kate Stables (@thisisthekit ) later added her beautiful voice to the song with me in the Gaite Lyrique in Paris. Listen to ‘Easy to Sabotage (feat. @naeemjuwan )’ and watch the new video directed by @michaelbrowndesign  at the link in our bio. “I made the original music for Easy to Sabotage in a hotel room in Chicago during the National's Easy to Find tour in 2019. And BRM jammed this song... which is built around a riff that is fun to play over and over... multiple times in 2019. We recorded the performances at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn and the Hollywood Palladium and I was able to combine the bootlegs with studio recordings to make this song, sort of like a latter day Grayfolded. @naeemjuwan later added his incredible verses which somehow feel like they were always meant to be woven with @blobtower ’s live vocals. @james_krivchenia , @jt_bates_ and @jasontreuting all contribute drumming and @arsononly added processing.
