“You can’t start a fire without a spark.”Released on this day in 1984, “that one song that was going to throw gasoline on the fire,” as Bruce wrote, was “Dancing in the Dark.” The first of seven top 10 singles from “Born in the U.S.A.,” it was one of the last Bruce wrote and added to the LP — but still one of his “most well-crafted and heartfelt pop songs,” he recalled. Listeners responded, taking it to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
