On view: «Lukas Truniger, Isabell Bullerschen, Rhona Mühlebach. Swiss Media Art – Pax Art Awards 2025» The exhibition brings together three distinct artistic positions: Lukas Truniger examines how ideas of human superiority are embedded in digital infrastructures. Isabell Bullerschen works with image archives that are transformed through biological processes. In a new work, Rhona Mühlebach explores the fantasy of self-preservation through the figure of a snail. Together, the three presentations invite visitors to reflect on different aspects of a present shaped by technology. _____ For the fifth instalment of ORBIT_E, the artist duo 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 presents (𝒅𝒊)𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝒈𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒏, a real-time performance piece that explores radioactivity as a force of change. Through the virtual simulation of an atomic garden, two sets of images — historical agricultural crops and Antarctic marine plankton — are linked and transformed. Accessible via a web interface, this garden is constantly evolving, between growth, mutation and decomposition. The project draws on the little-known history of atomic gardens developed after the Second World War to study so-called ‘peaceful’ applications of nuclear energy. It also echoes the chronic exposure of marine organisms to low doses of radiation, the long-term ecological effects of which remain uncertain. The project is curated by Marlene Wenger, curator at HEK (Haus der Elektronischen Künste, Basel). 📅 (𝒅𝒊)𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝒈𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒏 can be discovered from 28 January to 1 February at Art Genève, at the MBAL stand !

Nikita Diakur @nikitadiakur trains a digital double to master a simple stunt: a Backflip. The avatar crashes, twitches, and fails endlessly. A slapstick turns into a learning journey on failure, resilience, and the limits of perfection. “The fascination with watching the avatar’s development lies not so much in what it finally manages to achieve, but in the fact that Diakur flawlessly intertwines physical and digital realms of embodiment.” Dr. Marlene Wenger @_______marlene______ selects Backflip for our Summer Season. Dead celebrities return as holograms, avatars, and deepfakes; meme culture thrives in a burning world. In The Future Ahead Will Be Weird AF (Part 1), Silvia Dal Dosso (@hawaidolphino ) uses generative AI to create uncanny flaws and glitches from digital reality. “Dal Dosso uses the artistic tools of appropriation and collage to show the nature and capability of AI, especially how it made the internet an even weirder place of contradictions and simultaneity.” Dr. Marlene Wenger @_______marlene______ selects The Future Ahead Will Be Weird AF (Part 1) for our Summer Season. TechBrunch: Plankton Sun, 10.08.2025 | 12:30–15:00 | @hek_basel Workshop with Anthea Oestreicher @antheaoe What do glowing oceans, white cliffs, and the air in your lungs have in common? To mark the closing weekend of Other Intelligences, artist and researcher Anthea Oestreicher invites you into the invisible world of plankton. She’ll open the workshop with a short presentation on her artistic research, followed by a walk to the nearby Merian Gardens to collect water samples. Back at HEK, we’ll observe the samples under the microscope and reflect on planetary rhythms, ecological interdependence, and how these tiny organisms shape life on Earth. Curious? Anthea shares more in her blog post on share.hek.ch. Cost: CHF 45 / 25 / 0 Tickets and details via link in story
