#NoorderlichtBiennale2025 #MachineEntanglements #EXPO2025 #WorldExpoOsaka #DutchPavilion #RethinkingInnovation (English) Before the 30th edition of the Noorderlicht Biennial Machine Entanglements kicks off on 12 July in the north of the Netherlands, we first head off to Japan. From 18 April to 12 May, we’ll be part of Re-thinking Innovation in the Dutch Pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, by invitation of the Nieuwe Instituut! Featuring work by Anouk Kruithof, Špela Petrič, and the Telemagic collective, we explore new entanglements between humans, nature, and technology. Petrič investigates archival imagery from a tomato-sorting robot, Kruithof presents hybrid identities between humans and plants, and Telemagic lets an AI robot reflect on labour, extraction, and control. In-Residency Day 3: Exploring research, education, and biological crop protection 🌱🧪 Our artists in residence delved deeper into the intersection of research, education, and the global horticultural network at the @worldhorticenter . At the research facilities of @vertifynl , thought-provoking discussions arose about research, monocultures, innovation and automated technologies.🤖 We wrapped up the day at @koppertnl , discovering the incredible world of biological crop protection and biostimulants 🐝🪱. A completely new experience for our artists, sparking new ideas and conversations. 🎨 @margherita.soldati shared her thoughts: “I’m ending the third day with a lot of thoughts and curiosity about what might happen if the efficient, controlled, automated horticultural world were to intersect with regenerative agriculture. Research into allergies has drawn me toward an appreciation for diversity and contamination as preventive care. Visiting places where one crop is heavily prioritized and protected, I wonder: how could these two worlds coexist?” 🎥 @iloobia reflected: “Alongside the positives presented today at Koppert associated with a holistic approach to managing living systems with biological solutions over pesticide use, there are also many crucial ethical and philosophical issues raised regarding the mass production and distribution of living organisms.” Today has given us a lot to think about as we explore the balance between technology, biology, and sustainability 🌍 Time for the 4th and final day today, follow us for more! #InResidency #Eat #This #Horticulture #Sustainability #FutureOfFood #Research #BiologicalSolutions #Innovation #Biological #Crop #Protection

🌱 🍅 Day 1 of the Eatthis. In Residency is a wrap 🌱 🥒 What a fantastic start with our artists in residence! Visiting the Westland Museum, various high-tech growers of fresh vegetables such as tomatoes and mini cucumbers and ending the day learning more about the application of AI and Computer Vision. 🌱 @iloobia : “So many fascinating things to see and people met in one day, so it’s hard to pick one. However, entering one of the vast greenhouses for the first time was a unique sensory experience—a whole new way of seeing food production for me.” 🌿 @margherita.soldati “In my research on allergies, I often deal with the unknown and encounter errors. However, today I experienced something completely different: a new, controlled, and error-free approach to caring for plants and food. This shift in perspective, combined with the diversity of experiences, gave me a new outlook on the relationship between food and care.” We can’t wait to see what day 2 has in store for us, follow us to stay updated! #horticulture #history #vegetable #production #eat #this #healthy #hightech #innovation #futureoffood

WELCOME TO: Wed 27/11/2024, 19:00 – 21:00 ✨ Screening and Discussion: AIxxNOSOGRAPHIES and the future of healthcare by and with Špela Petrič ✨ As AI is being trialled across all sectors, how will it shape the future of healthcare? In AIxxNOSOGRAPHIES, artist Špela Petrič takes us on a thought-provoking journey through an imagined interview with a chief researcher at a medical regulatory body, exploring the challenges and dilemmas faced with AI’s integration into healthcare. ✨ This compelling video work is a result of Petrič’s ongoing research on the automation of care (2021–present). It weaves together elements like an audio map on synthetic data in medical training by Reon Cordova and a visual map on AI-assisted genetic screening for newborns by Janita Chen. The work also brings voices from Performative Ethnographies held at Erasmus Medical Center, University Hospital Bonn, and University Medical Center Groningen, where amateur ethnographers captured their field notes. ✨ Join us for this screening, followed by a presentation and in-depth discussion on Petrič’s exploration of care infrastructures and technologies. All people and genders are welcome, no registration required.💜 images: 1 Špela Petrič and Studio Teratope: AIxxNOSOGRAPHIES, installation, Ars Electronica, Linz, 2023.
