coring sediments as geological archives
Each core sample captures slow processes, long-term histories, has seen earthquakes, losses, changes, lifes.

Visibilities of the Invisible // Patchy Metabolisms IV
PAR (PLANKTON ATMOSPHERE RESONANCE) currently holds air in the gallery, but when brought to the ocean, it floats on the water column—elevating water body above water, making the submerged visible.
This prototype plays with the scientific acronym PAR (Photosynthetically Available Radiation) while exploring how plankton resonate beyond the visible spectrum into atmospheric, metabolic, and planetary scales. Environmental sensors communicate between breathing pulses—human and plankton in cycle.
How do we sense beyond containment?
STAY TUNED FOR ITS IMMERSION.
The exhibition and my stay is funded by the UN Ocean Decade
@un_ozeandekade_deutschland and would not be
possible without the trust and support of @hifmb_ol
and #hansewissenschaftskolleg. Pop up exhibition at @natur_und_mensch
Further it is part of my PhD project within @interfacing_the_ocean_zhdk , supervised by #romankirschner and #karinharrasser - all the work would not be possible without them!

ALWAYS MORE THAN ONE makes different modes of knowing physically experienceable through overlaid texts.
Red filters reveal poems about plankton, blue ones the corresponding scientific explanations. Depending on the filter, reality changes, because plankton, like knowledge, is always more than one thing.

KNEE DEEP IN RESEARCH transforms waves: sound into light, light into electrical currents, back to sound. Only through flashlight on solar cell do the interviews become audible—a technical echo of photosynthesis, communication across distances.
Every human voice behind this work becomes part of the circuit—researcher, artist, oceanographer—all speaking through light about our attempts to know the unknowable and how we sense ocean worlds. How do we become more listening, sensing beings?

The pop up exhibition at @natur_und_mensch explores the irregular connections between human and planktonic existence through interconnected works. How do we make the planetary visible through the microscopic?
FOREL ULE OF A TIME SPENT arranges three months of research images according to the Forel-Ule scale—a scientific color measurement for seawater. The objective scale becomes subjective ordering, turning time and color into an archive of change. Is there a right color for environments?
WATER, OTHERWISE Water is lightness for us; for plankton, it's density. From smooth touches toward friction and duration. More than a different texture the waters contain industrial 'ocean' and 'algae' fragrances. With touch and smell the vessels explore our mediated ocean imaginaries—there is no 'natural' ocean scent, only cultural construction. How to sense other through manufactured memories of the sea?

Breathing-with....laboratory worlds
In the lab, I sit with my breathing bioreactor: a space where human breath meets plankton life. My thought dissolve as I try to synchronize with rhythms older and smaller than my own understanding.
What does it mean to breathe together across species? How do we listen with our lungs?

What stories does the plankton net carry?
Following Ursula K. Le Guin's vision of the carrier bag as storyteller, I reimagine the plankton net not just as scientific tool, but as a vessel that gathers narratives from the depths. The piece invites to witness how the act of sampling becomes an embodied practice of listening and caring.
"Who has known the ocean?" is now travelling. It was recently screened @youngalgaeneers and got selected for @deepwave_ocean_org .
