“Till’ Evermore” (2026) by Yannick Lowery (@severe.paper ) Collage and cyanotype on fabric This work is currently on view at InLiquid Gallery as part of “Brownin’” Lowery will be one of four artists speaking at the Brownin’ Artist Talk with Zindzi Harley (@zindzilohan ), on Tuesday, April 28 from 6-8pm. RSVP at link in bio. Lowery’s statement about “Till’ Evermore” - “Long before I came to Mississippi to attend an all Black boarding school, I remember my earliest Mississippi reference was drawn from a horrifying photo of a Black boy named Emmett Till. Although I knew it was real, it didn’t fully resonate for me until I was 14, the age he was when two white men viciously took his life during summer vacation to visit family in Mississippi in 1955. Emmett was from Chicago and traveled by train with his cousin. Coincidentally, my mother was also living in Chicago, and I would take the train to and from school when I came home for summer. Each journey felt like I was tracing his steps. I thought about my own mother and how she might have managed my murder. How many lives she might’ve taken in vengeance? How the cycle of hate and violence may have spread like a virus due to my loss. What kind of person would be able to do what Mamie Till-Mobley did after the murder of her child? A saint? Till’ Evermore references the Haitian spirit Ezili Dantor, who is revered as the fierce mother, protector of women and children, and a champion of revolution. She is commonly depicted as a Black Madonna holding a child with scars on her cheek, representing fierce, protective, and sometimes vengeful love.”

“Dia[spora] / ΔΙΑ[ΣΠΟΡΑ]: A Garden in Dialogue / ΕΝΑΣ ΚΗΠΟΣ ΣΕ ΔΙΑΛΟΓΟ” showcases 19 international afrofeminist artists working in painting, photography, collage, and fiber whose work explores the multiplicity of black womanhood, self discovery and identity through the world building and womanist prose of Alice Walker, a Black feminist, poet, author and activist coined the term “womanist” in her book, “In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens: Womanist Prose” (1983). Womanism, or Black feminism, offers a space for Black feminists who have been erased from our own labor. Black feminists are being “outrageous, audacious and willful” and “responsible” by reclaiming our power. Curated by @zindzilohan & @curated_by_erooseveltbrown On view at HeartbeatInk Gallery May 8 - June 2, 2026. Join @zindzilohan of @zindzine & @artgirlinres and @anayotothe of @carefreemag for a virtual program via Zoom including the artists of the “Dia[spora]: A Garden in Dialogue” exhibition for a virtual girl talk on afrofeminist curation and publishing May 9th at 12 EST / 19:00 EEST Artists in the exhibition include: Liv Latricia Habel @livscyklus Michele Pierson @micheleepierson Dylan Camp @dylanccamp Lanecia Rouse @larartstudio Ekene Ugboaja @byekene Brejenn Allen @brejenn Chase Williamson @chasewilliamsonart Doriana Diaz @bydorianadiaz Aliana Grace Bailey @alianagrace Megpie Pollard @meg_pie3 Jahniah Kum @byjahniahkum Lakesha Moore @lakesha_m_calvin Elisheba Israel Mrozik @queenbeeink Grei Booker @mslegacybuilder Nia Hampton @niand3rthal Erynne Byrd-Quigtar @just_abdullah Shakira Hunt @shakirahunt.creativestudio Nesha Logan @nesha.l.logan Krystle Lemonias @empress1989kl #curator #philly #athens #nashville #blackart
