“Dia[spora] / ΔΙΑ[ΣΠΟΡΑ]: A Garden in Dialogue / ΕΝΑΣ ΚΗΠΟΣ ΣΕ ΔΙΑΛΟΓΟ” showcases 19 international afrofeminist artists working in painting, photography, collage, and fiber whose work explores the multiplicity of black womanhood, self discovery and identity through the world building and womanist prose of Alice Walker, a Black feminist, poet, author and activist coined the term “womanist” in her book, “In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens: Womanist Prose” (1983). Womanism, or Black feminism, offers a space for Black feminists who have been erased from our own labor. Black feminists are being “outrageous, audacious and willful” and “responsible” by reclaiming our power.

I am pleased to announce that I have been selected as a key artist in the digital lineup curated for the REVOLT Art Fair—Miami Art Week/Art Basel Miami.
This year, @revolt and @revoltartfair are leveling up with a massive LED wall spotlighting boundary-breaking visual storytellers. Through Dual Currency: Defiance by Design, each artist pushes form, plays with medium, and redefines how Black art is seen, shared, and valued.
Five pieces from my “War on Drugs” series, that explores the complexities of the American Dream, its juxtaposition to the American Gangster, and the history of corruption, crime, and judiciary injustices in this country will be featured and available for collection during the fair.
Thank you to @revolt@revoltartfair its amazing curators, and all of the wonderfully talented artists that I am in the company of. It’s an honor and a privilege!!
If you’d like to attend the fair please visit the @revoltartfair page and RSVP. The link is in their bio. To all of those attending tonight’s “Private Viewing”, see you soon!! ✌🏽☀️😘

So this happened last week 🤭
On Sunday September 7th I received a surprising email from @newarkarts on behalf of Victoria Foundation (Newark) that not only was I selected to be featured in their upcoming inaugural exhibition, but that I had been chosen as the recipient of this year’s prestigious Emerging Artist Award in the amount of $5000.00.
There is only one Emerging Artist Award granted annually and this year—they chose me!! Can you believe it?! What a blessing—still in disbelief.
I am extremely grateful to the Victoria Foundation for such a generous award, as well as Newark Arts for being the conduit for this amazing opportunity.
This was the perfect birthday gift.💝
Thank you!!

“Maxine”, 2024
Original: 11 x 14, Mixed Media on paper.
Maxine—Gal yuh good!! ❤️🏆
In the ‘90s, it was all about the soundtrack. Every one of my ATWGs has one of their own. Maxine or Maxi as I affectionately call her was Queen of the Dancehall. She didn’t come to play. She murdered every dance floor!! Slow Whine, Tik Tok, Bogle, and the Peppa Seed were her weapons of choice.
Her hairstyles changed like her mood, and her fashions…flamboyant, vibrant, sexy, and rebellious. A heavy mix of runway and unique Caribbean style. A true Around the Way Girl.
And yes, I made the video mood boards for each ATWG myself!! Honestly, it was the highlight of my creative process.🤩

So this happened…
Last week, I celebrated the opening of my first international exhibition. A group exhibition comprised of works from 19 international afrofeminist artists working in painting, photography, collage, and fiber whose works explore the multiplicity of black womanhood, self discovery and identity.
I have four pieces featured in the show, that I guarded with my life and hand delivered to Greece.🤭
Thank you Zindzi and Evan for this gracious opportunity. What a blessing it is to know, and work with you. To Ino and the HeartbeatINK Gallery family you are golden in every way. I appreciate you!! To all of my fellow artists that are a part of this exhibition, I am honored to be in your company. You inspire me.

“Lola aka LoLo: Hair Done, Nails Done, Everything BIG”, 2026
24 x 30
Mixed media collage on canvas.
*Currently available for acquisition*
“Lola aka LoLo: Hair Done, Nails Done, Everything Big”, a work from my Around the Way Girl series, draws its name and spirit from the iconic 1990s Hip Hop track. It serves as both a personal reflection and a cultural tribute.
In the 90s “The Doobie”, a new variation of the traditional “wash and set” became an affordable luxury for every Around the Way Girl throughout the New York City tri-state area. On any given day, Dominican hair salons would be packed with a wide array of melanated beauties. A ritual before and after any date, party or club. For fifteen dollars we would leave with our hair full of body, bounce, and the confidence of a goddess.

Self-Portrait
“Sixteen”, 2026
36 x 48 (3ft x 4ft)
Mixed media collage on canvas.
Recently, I started preparing this special piece for an upcoming exhibition and felt compelled to add some additional detail to it. This might be my favorite.🖤🤍
“Sixteen” invites viewers into a moment of becoming—where my identity is both forming and resisting definition. In this self-portrait, I reflect on my 16 year old self with a gaze that is both introspective and unyielding. My expression, anchored by a steady stare and a contemplative hand, captures the emotional tension of adolescence: a space between vulnerability and self-possession.
Bold black and white stripes construct a structured, almost confining backdrop, evoking the rigid expectations and external pressures that shaped my identity. These lines are interrupted by my presence, suggesting both disruption and agency. Layered patterns—polka dots, gingham, and floral motifs introduce a dialogue between softness and structure, complexity and contradiction, mirroring the multifaceted nature of youth.
The composition balances graphic precision with emotional depth (hence the hearts in my eyes/windows to my soul), transforming memory into a stylized narrative. Sixteen is not simply a self-portrait, but a meditation on self-awareness, individuality, and the quiet strength required to exist authentically within and beyond imposed frameworks.

Opening Reception

Recently, my sister-friend @iamjusttisha (aka Lil Magic…all of my friends have nicknames lol.) and I attended the opening reception for the Moments Gallery x King Saladeen digital and physical art exhibition at the Dream Hotel Downtown. Amazing to say the least. Make sure you check it out!! We planned for an evening of hopping, so we RSVP’d for the Michael Jackson Pop-Up Gallery event as well—it was a mad house (the rain didn’t help). @complex you owe us one!! 😝
Anywho, we ended up spinning the block on the Dream Hotel (rooftop), and opted for dinner at Philippe Chow instead. Great night! 🖤🤍❤️
One of my favorites from my Around the Way Girl series…
