Meet our SXSW 2026 panellist, Jonathan Williams (@vrx.connect ):
Jonathan is an award-winning developer, speaker, educator, and producer of immersive content leveraging future technology (VR/AR/360/XR) to create worlds and experiences via storytelling and animation. His catalogue of experiences has led him to produce content for a wide range of brands, including Google, Meta, Verizon, Samsung, and Disney as well as real-time social content for athletes and artists.
Jonathan is a founding partner at VRX, one of the world’s leading immersive media companies, and co-founder of the “Intro to VR” course, a California Public Library initiative (based in Inglewood) focused on developing students to build the future of computing. He is the recipient of the prestigious Meta VR grant and 2x Oculus LaunchPad Fellow for promising future technology creators.
He has been recognised as a leading creator of storytelling in VR as well as one of the Top 20 African American Men in VR in Los Angeles. Utilising future technology as a catalyst for social impact, he is the creator of the award-winning VR documentary series, “Shadows of Society” highlighting powerful human narratives while revealing the rigours of homelessness in Los Angeles. He is currently developing “Fatherhood Legacy”, a VR narrative about intergenerational communication.
Jonathan will be joining Anne Rupert, Sarah Ticho and Danielle Giroux as they explore sustainable business models for meaningful XR. But they need your vote to help get them to SXSW.

Big Congrats to Jonathan on a job well done! Black Heart’s own Jonathan Williams brought his expertise in Unity development to an incredible augmented reality project showcased at SXSW 2025—a powerful immersive experience shedding light on a buried piece of history.
Through volumetric performances, hand-drawn quill imagery, and AI animations, the project follows Ryder and editor Jesse Max Barber as they fight to reveal the untold truth of the 1906 Atlanta Massacre—a story long suppressed by politicians and the press.
Created in collaboration with the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, award-winning Emblematic Group’s Nonny de la Peña, director Alton Glass, and journalist Retha Hill, this piece pushes the boundaries of AR storytelling.
