We are thrilled to announce the completion of the Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center in Garrison, New York! 🎭 The new theater establishes a permanent home for @hudsonvalleyshakespeare , one of New York's most beloved regional professional theater companies. Featuring a curved, timber-framed grid shell, our design extends the theater’s year-round functionality, improves circulation across the campus, and enables a wider range of programming to create a new cultural destination for New York and the wider performing arts community. The architecture also works together with the landscape, designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz, to frame iconic views of the Hudson Highlands and create a natural backdrop for HVS’s performances. Integrated sustainability strategies—including the use of mass timber, photovoltaic panels, rainwater harvesting and reuse, and restored native habitats—will help the building become the first purpose-built, open-air theater in the US to achieve LEED Platinum certification. Thank you to our wonderful collaborators @about_the_work , @nelsonbyrdwoltz , @thorntontomasetti , @artmassif , @fisherdachs , @thresholdacoustics , @buro_happold , @tillotsondesign , @flyleafcreative , @consigliconstruction and many more. We hope to see you there this summer! 🌿 📸: @jasonorear

We are thrilled to share that the Spelman College Mary Schmidt Campbell Center for Innovation & the Arts has received a 2026 Design Honor Award from @aiageorgia ! Uniting Spelman’s existing arts and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs, this cross-disciplinary learning environment creates new opportunities for women of African descent to excel in fields where they are often underrepresented. Organized around distinct hubs for collaboration—including the flexible Forum and the light-filled Arthur M. Blank Innovation Lab—the design provides dynamic spaces for students to gather, connect, and create within a learning environment centered on collaboration. Thank you to the AIA Georgia jury for this recognition, and to @spelmancollege and our collaborators @gvsa_design , @scape_studio , @thorntontomasetti , @morlightsdesign , @thresholdacoustics , @theatre_projects , @newcombboyd , @turnerconstructioncompany and many more for helping bring this project to life! 📸: @tomharrisphotography

🌏 Earth Day reminds us that cities are ecosystems, too. Coming soon, explore this idea at Flyway City: Architecture for a Flourishing Ecosystem, an inspiring new exhibition designed and co-curated by Studio Gang in collaboration with the CAC. Learn how you can take action to create healthier urban habitats and save birds from colliding with building glass, a problem that currently kills more than 1 billion birds each year in the US. The companion exhibition, Chicago’s Living Habitat, co‑curated with Openlands, connects the design of our cities with the environments that make them possible. 📍Opens June 11 at the Chicago Architecture Center. Details at the link in bio. @studiogang @openlands

Architect and Founding Partner of Studio Gang, Jeanne Gang, FAIA, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Architecture—UVA’s highest external honor in the field. Globally recognized as a pre-eminent architect, widely known for her work in the public and cultural realm as well as in urban environments, Gang founded Studio Gang in 1997 in Chicago, Illinois. Over nearly three decades, she has led the international architecture and urban design practice’s growth from its Chicago roots to also include offices in New York, San Francisco, and Paris. Her inquisitive, forward-looking approach to design—unique in its pursuit of new technical and material possibilities as well as in its expansion of the active role of designers in society—has distinguished her as a leading architect of her generation. Gang will give a public talk to mark the occasion on April 14 at 3:30 pm at Newcomb Theater. Visit the link in our bio for more information. Image credits: 01_Jeanne Gang. The design of Aqua Tower was heavily influenced by topographic mapping, creating a vertical landscape that provides residents with generous outdoor terraces while preserving views of key Chicago landmarks. Jeanne and the project team studied this concept through sketches and models, including a key model in which strings were used imaginatively to visualize sightlines across the city. Archival materials that document Aqua’s design process are now housed in the Studio’s Visible Archive and the collections of @centrepompidou , @cooperhewitt , and @artinstitutechi . — 🏢 Aqua Tower, Chicago, Illinois, United States (completed 2010) 🖼️ Architectural model, views study, : 1”=20’-0” scale, 2005 🎨 Cardboard, tape, string, chalk 🖼️️ Jeanne Gang, drawing, facade shaped by views, 2005 🎨 Pen, colored pencil on paper 🏛️ Collected by @centrepompidou 📷 Tom Harris, Butler V. Thank you to all our friends, clients, colleagues, and collaborators who joined us to celebrate our new home in San Francisco! We were also excited to officially welcome Weston Walker, who recently relocated to his native California to lead our San Francisco office. Situated in the heart of the city’s Financial District, our new office supports our growing team and expanding portfolio across the West Coast. Over the last decade, we’ve had the honor of working on projects that include an expansion of the @cacollegeofarts campus, a revitalization of Kresge College at @ucsc , the @livemirasf residential tower, and a masterplan for the new Mission Rock neighborhood, where we also designed @verde_sf . We were also thrilled to receive @aiacalif ’s 2025 Firm Award in recognition of our commitment to creating architecture that enriches the communities we call home. As we kick off this new chapter for our San Francisco office, we’re grateful to everyone who has supported and collaborated with us along the way—and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

The Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation at @amnh was recently featured in @curbed ’s “The Best of the New New York Architecture,” a look back on the past decade of buildings that have stood out by “embrac[ing] the city’s topography and spirit.” @nymag architecture critic Justin Davidson notes, “The new Gilder Center — granite on the outside, shotcrete on the inside, with a seductive composition of concavities and curves — comes off as a true New Yorker: defiantly eccentric, rough, show-offy, and smart. And like any true urbanite, it’s squeezed between neighbors, content to be part of something unthinkably vast.” Head to the link in our bio to read the full story.

The Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center is complete! Named for Brooklyn-born activist, educator, and politician Shirley Chisholm—the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress—the Center establishes a welcoming hub for fitness, recreation, learning, and gathering in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush neighborhood. Preserving and extending the site’s existing recreational uses, the building features a transparent main entrance and large arched windows that invite visitors in while bringing natural light into the interior. Lower levels offer spaces for recreation and exercise, including a double-height competition-grade pool and a gymnasium with a walking track. Daylit spaces for community and education programs on the upper floors lead to a wrap-around rooftop terrace and garden. Openings between floors maximize visual and physical connections between programs, establishing a vibrant and airy atmosphere that welcomes everyone. Thank you to our collaborators @nycddc , @consigliconstruction , @eklapllc , @thorntontomasetti , @wsp.usa , @atelier_ten , @mckissackofficial , @40sixfourarchitects , @code_nyc , and many more who helped make this project possible. As we close out the year, we’re looking back on some of the milestones and moments that defined 2025 ✨ This year marked the completion of two significant projects: the Mary Schmidt Campbell Center for Innovation & the Arts at Spelman College and David Rubenstein Treehouse at Harvard University. In Atlanta, the Center for Innovation & the Arts offers students a new cross-disciplinary learning environment, amplifying Spelman’s existing strengths in the arts and STEM. And a building of firsts, the Rubenstein Treehouse establishes Harvard’s first university-wide conference center, and the campus’ first mass timber building, aimed at energizing conversation and collaboration across the new Enterprise Research Center. We also contributed to the 2025 Biennale Architettura with “The Living Orders of Venice,” which explored new ways for humans and animals to coexist in urban environments, and launched the first-ever Biennale Bioblitz—a crowd-sourced ecological field study that identified nearly 200 species across the Biennale grounds. In Berlin, “The Art of Architectural Grafting” opened at Aedes Architecture Forum, exploring the concept of grafting through six recent Studio Gang projects, while also grafting itself onto the Aedes space. Jeanne guest edited the latest edition of Harvard Design Magazine with Lizabeth Cohen, focusing on reuse and repair across scales and looking beyond the allure of new construction. She was also honored by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker as a 2025 recipient of the Order of Lincoln, the state’s highest honor for professional achievement and public service, and recognized by AW Architektur & Wohnen as Architect of the Year and Monocle as Civic Architect of the Year. Across our four offices, we found new ways to connect—completing our tenth Bioblitz, our second backpacking trip, and our first Guess-A-Sketch. Amid meetings, deadlines, charrettes, and site visits, we welcomed new teammates and leaders and opened our doors to students, continuing to engage with the next generation of architects. We have much more in store for 2026 and can’t wait to share what’s ahead!
