At About the Work, we help institutions translate vision into built outcomes—aligning stakeholders, navigating complexity, and guiding projects from early concept through construction. We are excited to celebrate the opening of the Green-House at Green-Wood Cemetery. This new public-facing space reimagines arrival and engagement at one of New York’s most historic landscapes. Built around the restored 1895 Weir Greenhouse, the project creates a welcoming front door for exhibitions, workshops, research, and community programming just beyond the Main Entrance. We were proud to serve as the owner’s representative throughout design and construction, partnering closely with the team to help bring this thoughtful, multi-use space to life. We are also honored to share that the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation @bwaf.nyc has recognized the project as part of Built by Women 2026. Now open and free to the public, the Green-House offers visitors a new way to connect with Green-Wood before heading onto the grounds. This work asks for patience, trust, and a lot of care: often long before anything is visible. We were glad to see this project recognized recently, and we see it as a reflection of the collaboration and stewardship behind it. Grateful for a client and team committed to doing the work thoughtfully, from the very beginning. @hvshakespeare @dezeen @fastcompany @galeriemagazine

Two of our long-time partners making headlines this week! 📰 ✨ @historicgreenwood - nearly a decade of partnership as they care for one of Brooklyn’s most iconic spaces. With longtime president Rich Moylan retiring, it’s a moment of reflection and transition for this extraordinary place. 🎭 @hvshakespeare - over five years working alongside HVS as they grow into their next chapter. Their new home is under construction in the Hudson Highlands, and their latest production, The Matchmaker, just earned a New York Times Critic’s Pick! Proud to support organizations shaping the spaces—and experiences—that make our communities thrive. We actualize educational spaces that are alive around the clock—spaces filled with energy, care, and community. Spaces that are well-used, well-loved. Without the students, families, and educators, the photos feel empty—and so do the halls. Spring break brings a rare stillness to the new East Harlem Scholars Academy High School. Wishing all (students, family, educators AND spaces) a restful Spring break. #EastHarlemScholars #SpringBreakVibes #GratefulForOurCommunity

March Madness isn’t just about the game—it’s about the future! 🏀💪✨ Thrilled to share our newly completed gym for Girls Prep Bronx, a space where young athletes and leaders will grow, compete, and thrive. Here’s to the girls who play, lead, and break barriers. To the coaches, teachers, and mentors who inspire them. And to the spaces that empower the next generation of champions—on and off the court. Because leading teams is where we practice who we’re going to be. 💜🏆 #MarchMadness #FutureLeaders #GirlsWhoLead #SpacesThatInspire #publicprep #openimpactre #michaelgravesarchitecture

AtW is excited to share some behind the scenes photos of the bright and welcoming mural designed by Yukiko Izumi( @yi_design_jp ) for CPC One. The mural, strategically placed at the top of the second-floor staircase, not only extends a warm welcome to visitors as they enter the new office space but also aims to express the purpose and services that CPC provides. The mural is divided into two distinct components - the exterior, which depicts iconic buildings, as well as the familial and peaceful daily scenes found around the office space. In contrast, the interior uses simple, engaging illustrations to depict the services and programs offered by CPC. Viewers will notice the occasional conversations taking place within the mural, which aims to emphasize CPC’s commitment to fostering cross-cultural and intergenerational interaction within the community. Yukiko states, “We hope that this mural, much like the new office itself, will become a bustling hub where diverse individuals come and go, fostering vibrant interactions”. We are proud to announce the grand opening of CPC One with our partners at @cpc_nyc . Located at 45 Suffolk Street, CPC One houses CPC’s first-ever permanent Manhattan home in their 59-year history of social services, across 50 programs throughout New York City. The new CPC One headquarters will serve over 15,000 community members each year through their social, educational, and civic engagement programming. We are honored to be part of projects that not only build spaces, but also bridge cultures, unite communities, and create spaces that reflect the richness of traditions. We look forward to seeing the positive impact CPC One will have on the community for generations to come. AtW takes pride in celebrating Earth Day and the impactful work accomplished on the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail. 🌎🌿 From conception to construction, this trail reflects our commitment to sustainability and preserving the natural beauty of our environment. The Trail Conference’s Steward Station, located at Upper Overlook, which provides an outpost by which stewards can orient and counsel hikers before they begin their ascent. The station’s green roof boasts solar panels installed by Heitmann Builders and Pidala Electric, that provides power for Parks staff and NYNJTC trail stewards, as well as for first responder communications equipment and a new AED, which has improved emergency response capabilities at this very popular trailhead. We are grateful to be able to contribute to a project that not only connects communities but also nurtures our planet. Let’s continue building a sustainable future together! Repost from AIANY Center for Architecture: Atw is excited to share a HHFT update! The Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail (@fjord_trail ) is a 7.5-mile path in development along the Hudson River shoreline that will connect Beacon and Cold Spring, NY. Designed by @scape_studio , the trail spans Putnam and Dutchess counties, offering six access points for visitors and connecting them to a number of highly trafficked hiking trails in Hudson Highlands State Park. The design represents a new approach that strikes a balance between environmental conservation and recreational access; it is intended to protect the local ecology for the long-term by repairing erosion, managing invasive species, and replacing them with native ones, increasing shoreline resiliency to sea-level rise, and addressing flooding with new hydrology systems. The trail also aims to create a completely accessible experience for visitors. A majority of the trail will be constructed with AGODA-compliant crushed stone and short wood crossings for easy navigation, ensuring access for people using wheelchairs. At the riverfront, kayak launches with transfer benches are being planned to accommodate kayakers with disabilities looking to get onto the water. This project is slated for completion in 2031.
