This is about as big as skateboarding was in 1985 on the east coast. Big enough to fill an empty parking lot full of kids looking to get a glimpse of a new pro “street style” skater. For most of these kids it was the first time seeing a pro skater doing tricks in real life which was a BIG deal back then because all we had was a couple of skate videos #skate visions #futureprimitive and photo sequences in @thrashermag or @transworldskate On the flip side seeing Gonz and @tonyhawk skate the @skateboardingolympics course this week kinda blew my mind! Skateboarding has come a long way from suburban parking lots to the global stage and seeing those dudes still ripping at age 50+ was truly inspiring. Nobody back then thought a career in skateboarding could last past age 25 let alone become on Olympic event...love it or hate it, the genie is out of the bottle. “Keep skateboarding a crime” and skate as many parking lots as possible!
