And that’s a wrap on an incredible semester of Skate Science. 🛹⚡️
This term was filled with so much #Skatetivity, and we could not be prouder of these students. They didn’t just create amazing skateboard art… they explored the science, engineering, creativity, history, innovation and culture behind every deck .
This semester, students dove into material science, environmental science, engineering, architecture, chemistry, math, design, civics, innovation, teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving… all through the lens of skateboarding and hands-on learning.
Next term, we’re taking things even deeper as we explore the “A” in STEAM through film, photography, print media, storytelling, graphic design, and the art and science that continue to shape skate culture around the world.
Huge thanks to CreateASkate, ACE Mentoring, Skate4Concrete, NewLine Skateparks, the City of Pompano, Apple, Vans, and the many incredible partners helping us expose kids to careers in STEM and showing students that learning can be creative, meaningful, and full of purpose.

Today is the 2026 @SkateboardingHallOfFame inductions ceremony @Vans HQ in #CostaMesa

This #SkateboardingHallOfFame event started in 2009 when #BruceLogan @TheTonyAlva1957@TonyHawk@DannyWay were inducted at the Vans Skatepark in Orange and the event has laid out our foundation of our #SkateboardCulture from there with an inductees over the years
Last night I had a dream and that took me back to 2020 when I was abducted with spirt of #HobbieAlter as a true makers maker @HobieSurfShop

As I looked thru my photos on my iPhone, I found Brian sweeping shop in November 2013 and Edie Laura & I am hanging out with 2026 Inductee @BryaceKanights at a Girls Combi Pool event in March 2018
It’s amazing to see how our skateboard culture weaves thru so many generations, people, and places.

At Surf Skate Science, we team up with Create-a-Skate each year because we know that art and trades like woodworking should not be “extra” but essential.
Art teaches kids to think differently, take creative risks, communicate ideas, and see possibilities where others see limits.
And when you combine art with skateboarding, engineering, physics, design, and hands-on learning… something incredible happens.
Students begin asking deeper questions:
⚙️ How is a skateboard engineered?
🎨 Why do graphics and branding matter?
🧠 How does creativity shape culture and innovation?
🙌 What can I create that has never existed before?
Research continues to show that creative hands-on activities help kids build confidence, improve problem-solving skills, reduce stress, strengthen emotional expression, and develop the kind of innovative thinking needed for the future.
These decks are more than artwork. They are proof that kids thrive when they are given space to create, experiment, and express who they are.

Always fun to joining the @TacoTuesdaySkateSD crew at @PHRpumpTrack every other Tuesday for a session from 6 to 8PM.
There is a multi-gender-generational crew in a low-pressure session. Today we got to celebrate a birthday, had a #SkateTrain and I got to join the crew for Taco’s @ElPuebloMexicanFood for #TacoTuesday
I got to see a #SchmittStix #ReeseSimpson board with Type 2 rails that was purchased at a thrift store for $7.00
It had surf skate trucks on it and that 20-year-old kid could flow with the rocker I had designed into that board just like the other boards I built in that era!
Every other week they alternate and skate the boardwalk in Pacific Beach, so you have a diverse crew of people that like to go with the flow. Congrats to Colin Kruse @CouchSlide for cultivating this piece of #SkateCulture for the last 12 years! It’s so cool to see the diversity that exist in skateboarding

Today was the final Palm Beach Surf Skate Science session of the term… and these students absolutely blew us away with their creativity. 🛹🎨
From bold graphics and futuristic concepts to meaningful personal stories told through art, these Create-a-Skate decks became so much more than skateboards. They became a reflection of imagination, engineering, identity, and confidence.
Huge shoutout to legendary skateboard designer Paul Schmitt and the incredible Create-a-Skate program for giving kids the opportunity to learn the science, history, engineering, and craftsmanship behind skateboard design in such a hands-on way.
This program teaches students:
🛹 Design thinking
🧠 Problem solving
🎨 Creative expression
⚙️ Engineering concepts
🙌 Patience and perseverance
Instead of just consuming products, students become creators. They begin to understand how things are made, why design matters, and how creativity and science work together.

1989 Hawaii Blaisdell arena Y Ramp contest. So Paul Schmitt @professorschmitt sent me this design for the first mini ramp contest for the NSA, and I was more than stoked, but it was just 24’ wide, so I made it 32 feet wide and added pool coping and marble ledges that we took from out front of the arena with a forklift and put them on top of the ramp. Gary Owens and Kale Sandridge went down the street and grabed some pool coping off a local pool. and no one ever knew we took them. The contest was so sick! I rode my bicycle out there today and saw @JimBellSkateboardRamps building an interesting course where we will see some #SkateTivity on display as its ridden
There is a Mini ramp that flows into the Street Course with a Vert wall and a Bank wall
