Today was the final Palm Beach Surf Skate Science session of the term… and these students absolutely blew us away with their creativity. 🛹🎨 From bold graphics and futuristic concepts to meaningful personal stories told through art, these Create-a-Skate decks became so much more than skateboards. They became a reflection of imagination, engineering, identity, and confidence. Huge shoutout to legendary skateboard designer Paul Schmitt and the incredible Create-a-Skate program for giving kids the opportunity to learn the science, history, engineering, and craftsmanship behind skateboard design in such a hands-on way. This program teaches students: 🛹 Design thinking 🧠 Problem solving 🎨 Creative expression ⚙️ Engineering concepts 🙌 Patience and perseverance Instead of just consuming products, students become creators. They begin to understand how things are made, why design matters, and how creativity and science work together. #FlashbackFriday to a day 3 weeks ago @SpotTampa Where @Fox13News came out to check out our #STEAM #CreateAskate class It was a day of #CreativeInspiration as we had 13 home school students colab with @CreateAskate @CoastLabKids @SurfSkateScience for a STEAM workshop I taught them more in depth about #NanoTubes & BioMimicry and how understanding nature gives us great things like a skateboard The students had worked with @Kris_Marovich a few months ago designing their artwork and how to process that artwork. Stoked to get a @CreateAskate shipment out today for @SurfSkateScience today via @UPS Toni & Uli Frallicciardi have been inspiring skateboards for many years by building a skateboarding community around them. Honored that they have been using #CreateAskate for the last 19 years in their programs where they have made boards with over 2,300 skaters That’s an average of 121 skaters per year! CreateAskate Spring Update 2026 It was great to mail out the final info packets to everyone who has filled out an educator profile this past couple of years. Sorry for taking for taking so long to get these out as I now have my focused turned to create a skate Your students can join the over 60,000 students over the last 20 years who have learned the relevance of how Science, Technology, Artistry Ecology, Biology, Physics, & Engineering are the foundation for a simple item in their life like a skateboard. If you know any other educators that could be interested in the Art or Woodshop versions of the program, send them to our website to nfill out an educator profile and I will mail them a packet. Over the last couple of years there have been periodic issues with our website. Recently we have fixed things and worked on the background functions with the same visual for now. If you are aware of anything not meeting your needs, please let me know. Had an amazing morning today in #Lakeland At Southwest Middle School with Art Teacher #PaulPeterson @Grade8Skateboards We had an assembly in the cafeteria, where we had some discussions with the students about the origins of @CreateAskate at @Innoskate , and Paul running in his school for the last 11 years. Then we dug into #NanoTubes and #BioMimicary as they snapped pieces of hard, maple veneer, and found out the strength and the direction of the grain and the nano tubes. Then we had a question-and-answer session, and it was super cool to see the students Curiosity Then I got the opportunity to check out Paul’s classroom where they do artwork screen printing, and all kinds of creative endeavors. i’ll also host a weekly skate club in the gym where kids learn how to ride Skateboards👊 #ProfessorSchmitt PaulSchmitt

For #MakerMonday today I had the opportunity to visit the @GillispieSchool in #LaJolla and deliver decks along with some #STEAM content of #CreateAskate content direct to the sixth-grade students. For the past several years, we’ve partnered with the incredible team at Apple’s Boca Town Center @apple @townctratboca through Today at Apple to help spark creativity in our students before we launch into our Create-a-Skate @createaskate term—and today was such a powerful reminder of why we love this experience so much. Students stepped into the world of digital design using Procreate @procreate , learning how real designers sketch, layer, and bring ideas to life. What starts as a simple concept on an iPad becomes the foundation for something much bigger—confidence, creativity, and the ability to see themselves in future careers. At Surf Skate Science, everything we do is rooted in design thinking and real-world exposure. Today wasn’t just about making cool skateboard graphics… it was about helping students realize that their ideas have value and that they can create something from nothing. Huge thank you to the amazing team at Apple Boca Town Center and Today at Apple for continuing to pour into our students year after year. Your energy, guidance, and heart for education make a lasting impact. Today I had the opportunity to visit the @GillispieSchool in #LaJolla and present my #CreateAskate curriculum to the sixth-grade students. I got to show then the #StuntWoodMovie and share with them, the birth life, and death of a skateboard I haven’t watched in years and was re impressed by the amazing storytelling of #JeffRoe and the crew that made the film for @Fuel.TV The movie was made 20 years ago yet the principles of science, math, ecology, biology, physics, engineering, and artistry are still relevant today and our cornerstone principles of the Skateboard we ride as Today as #SkateboardEnthusiast Thanks for the invite by Tasha and Billy Is it was refreshing to get in the classroom and present to young minds how important it is to harness their creativity through the example of skateboarding or whatever inspires them as the skateboard and our SkateboardCulture has inspired me forward! @BillyRuff1 @Tashb8 StuporModel ProfessorSchmitt PaulSchmitt
