Wow, a real post from me 🤷‍♂️... GOOD MORNING WORLD! It’s been a crazy Covid kind of year , here I sit outside The Bricks, having a coffee, pondering on how to recreate a business model that didn’t work through the last year as it did for 10 plus years previously, before losing down the first time in March. The Bricks, located in YBOR CITY, FL, is a restaurant born through SPoT’s (@spottampa ) channels of needing a place to, gather, listen to good music, eat, drink, and be merry. We closed it down November 1, due to some staff testing positive with Covid, which then brought the realization “it’s real ” and we couldn’t continue with the existing business model that had worked for the last 10 years. Our community and world has completely changed and although our states is open for business, it doesn’t mean it’s “ back to normal”, as it’s FAR FROM NORMAL and a long ways to get there. Still deciding how to make it all work as we may only get one more chance, but we will prevail! I wanted to thank the community, the skateboarding world, every single person who stepped foot through the door, and especially our amazing staff who now has to find a job during these difficult times. Be patient as we work through the kinks and ideas that will get us open and sustainable in the new year. It’s been a year of a Covid, it’s a Christmas in 3 weeks, and 2021 just ahead. SPoT’s BS... 16/366 --- January 16, 2020 --- Avail (The Kick Ass Punk Band) @availrichmond You would never guess it, but this is inside the Pro Course. We used to host all our Anniversary Parties inside directly on the course. We used do the contest, announce the results for the semi finals, kick everyone out, and set up for the show. Within 2-3 hours we’d bring in a portable stage, concert lights, a large PA system, and then open the gates. The crow would return and with this one, they were restless and almost storming the gates. We weren’t ready, but we had to just let them in before they killed us. It was Jim Thiebaud’s @jimthiebaud call, “let them in or die!” It was the first time we ever brought in a band from out of town and with a draw like Avail had. A hard hitting, punk rock band, that was down to fly in, stay at some cheap hotels, and barely get paid. Good ol’ days I would say! If I remember correctly, I believe Beau(Avail Cheerleader/ Mascot) and our friend Mike Pipito (Tampa friend) made the connection to make the show happen. Man they were super rad dudes and I would love to have them play just one more time in our lifetime of SPoT. Maybe for our 30th Anniversary? This picture and show was 1998 if I remember correctly. Most likely taken 📸 @ryangee_photo . It was our 5 Year Anniversary; $5 to get in and 5 kegs of free beer. We did all the first 9 Anniversaries at the park and graduated to Ybor City on the 10 Year Party. Thank you Avail as we will never forget this show as long as we live(Tim Barry @_tim_barry_ , Joe Banks, Gwomper, @gwomper Erik Larson, Beau Beau @beau_666_beau Butler).
