Steve Caballero Prototype NOS. When this deck arrived a few months ago I couldn’t believe how different it was compared to the orange version I have. If you look at the close ups you can see there were paint accents added to the mask and eyes, the sides have a blue fade and the top was painted black over a ripper top logo. I was told these accents and changes were made by C.R. Brite-Lite. I had been chasing this deck, in this color, for 8 years when I finally scored one back in March. If you had told me, at that time, I’d score a second one 7 months later, I would have never believed it. What I’m super psyched on though, is that this deck made me realize the one I got back in March is the smaller version and I never knew that. This deck is 31.5”X 10.5” and the first one I got is 29.5” X 9.75” and seeing the difference when they are side by side is wild. Tommy Guerrero personal rider deck. This is a prototype for what became the V8 model, similar to what you see Tommy skating in Future Primitive. This deck was skated either before or after the deck he skates in FP, but my guess is he skated it before, since Tommy told me it was an early one. When I look at this deck I think of it’s place in the evolution of street skating and it kind of blows my mind. SF street skating in the mid 80s. Crazy. I’ve been searching for a photo of Tommy skating this deck since I got it. I’ve contacted almost every photographer you can imagine, MoFo, BK, Grant, and many many more, no luck. I’ve looked through tons of mags, no luck. One person I couldn’t find is Kevin Thatcher. He seemed to be shooting in SF a bunch during this time and I’d love to contact him. Any help would be awesome. This is basically my last deck to post. I may reshoot and repost a few that I’m not happy with and I plan on doing some group photos in the future, but this is it for now. Steve Caballero personal rider deck. This is not one of the short production run “transition shape” decks. This deck is a cut down pig and judging from the shape of the nose, it was a stinger. It’s hard to tell in the photos but the re shaping is fairly uneven and the edges are sharp where it’s been cut and sanded. So, basically this was the beginning of experimenting with a new shape, pre Experimental, and what led to the transition shape/full dragon shape. If you look at the bottom rail in the photo of Cab riding the deck, it almost looks like the shape was cut in by using the rail as a guide. The bottom half of the cut follows the angle of the rail almost perfectly. What I find interesting on this deck are the wheel wells, the front in particular. They seem to be a bit more narrow and longer than the usual production wheel wells. It’s definitely not a UK deck, but the wheel wells are different for sure. I always take photos of decks two ways, with the sun at the nose, which sometimes causes a glare on the nose, and then the sun at the side which causes a side shadow. I try to pick the photo that represents the deck best and I always try to go with the no shadow version because it shows the shape better, but on this deck I couldn’t decide which set was best, so I posted both.
