🏫 We are so grateful for the 60+ people who showed up and helped build a vision for their community at the 78 Townhall this past Saturday 👏 We heard from youth, workers, neighbors, business owners, and elders in our community about what THEY want to see developed. 📣 Community members determined the benefits they want to see from the developer in our Community Benefits Agreement between housing, workforce, and community investments. Resolver Studio and Converge Architecture helped us map out what our dream neighborhood would look like. Thank you to the Teen Coalition for Chinatown for supporting the activities! 👫 We cannot build and advocate for a sustainable and equitable future without our amazing neighbors and community members. Keep an eye out for more workshops, town halls, and conversations regarding the 78 development by following CBCAC on Facebook & Instagram and signing up for our newsletter at the link in our bio.

Join us Saturday January 10th from 1pm-4pm at Douglass Park Cultural Center for food, fun and friends, as we celebrate the grand opening of both The Douglass Creative Space, and its sister project, Crate Town. 👍RSVP @ bit.ly/DCS_RSVP👍 Participating Artists Include: - Switchgrass @switchgrasspaper - Myra Su @myra.y.su - Cain - Oriana Koren - Woven Together - Ben Blount @blountben - Resolver Studio @resolverstudio - Dino Strong About the Douglass Creative Space: Situated in the basement of Douglass Park Cultural Center, The Creative Space was originally a wood shop and later a multipurpose arts room with an emphasis on ceramics. Through a large donation of woodworking equipment from School of the Art Instititue of Chicago, a multi-year grant from Good Chaos, and an ongoing partnership with Cooperation Racine, the space is well on its way to being revitalized, prioritizing the needs and desires of the Lawndale artists and families. The Creative Space is dedicated to analogue modes of making like ceramics and woodworking, printmaking and paper arts. About Crate Town: “Crate Town” is more than just a threshold—it’s an experience. To be located at the ground level of the Douglass Park Cultural and Community Center after the Festival, this vibrant hangout space transforms ordinary milk crates and industrial straps into a dynamic youth hub that supports the Lawndale community while providing a safe space for gathering and reflection. Designed for creativity and connection, it invites you to perform on a dynamic stage with a DJ booth for poetry, dance, or music; rest in cozy lounge zones where you can decompress, read, or vibe to the beat; display work made in the Douglass Creative Space within crate-wrapped columns showcasing sculptures alongside portraits of Anna and Frederick Douglass. Crate Town is where culture, community, and creativity happen. Crate Town was commissioned as part of the 2025 Chicago Sukkah Design Festival

“Common Chicago” is on view at the MAS Context Reading Room until January 31, 2026. The exhibition showcases a series of recently completed and newly commissioned projects for this exhibition by Chicago-based practices that envision a shared present and future. • • • The exhibition is presented within the context of “SHIFT: Architecture in Times of Radical Change,” the sixth edition of the @chicagoarchitecturebiennial . • • • Our relationship with the built environment is continuously evolving. Environmental challenges, economic and social inequalities, shifting living patterns, and polarizing politics all contribute to the constant reshaping of the physical spaces and intangible conditions that bring people together—or keep them apart. Within this shifting context, how can architects and designers help create common spaces that build stronger and more equitable communities? “Common Chicago” features projects by a spectrum of Chicago-based designers that address this question across a variety of scales and programmatic functions, including civic, institutional, housing, and open space. Featuring large-scale drawings, collages, and conceptual models, “Common Chicago” presents thoughtful approaches to how buildings and common spaces can contribute to a thriving, equitable, and sustainable Chicago. Architecture and landscape architecture offices featured in the exhibition include @borderless_studio , @civicprojectsarchitecture , @converge_architecture , @couldbearchitecture , Drumlin, @futurefirm , @jgma_insta , @kooarchitecture , @latent_design , @lbba_architects , @norman.kelley , @nowherecollaborative , @perkinswill , @resolverstudio , @r_barc , @sitedesigngroup , @studio.beckerxu , @studiogang , @tomleestudio , @teamurbanlab , @urbanworks_ltd , @vladimir_radutny_architects , @wheelerkearnsarchitects , @woodhouse_tinucci , and X, @mistry.nilay , and @chicago_public_art_group . • • • Images: Common Chicago, MAS Context Reading Room, Chicago, 2025. © Dan Kelleghan Photography. @dkelleghan . We’re thrilled to announce that the Chicago Sukkah Design Festival (CSDF) returns for its 4th edition, opening SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5 and running through October 25! Link in bio for full schedule of 2025 public programs. CSDF brings together neighbors, community organizations, designers, artists, students, and faith leaders to co-create sukkahs—structures inspired by Jewish tradition—reimagined as places of belonging, solidarity, and hope. CSDF models how interfaith and intercultural collaboration can transform contested histories into shared futures. By anchoring the sukkahs in ongoing neighborhood use, we aspire to cultivate living monuments to resilience: ‘third spaces’ that celebrate our collective humanity, and offer sanctuary for reflection, dialogue, and action toward a more just and compassionate world. During CSDF, the landscape of unique sukkah structures is open daily to the public and activated with programming. After CSDF, each sukkah is relocated and re-installed at the organizations that co-designed them as permanent program spaces, including as a bicycle kiosk, DJ booth, pop-up theater, healing station, and garden sanctuary. What happens when you bring together 49 Chicago architects and ask them to design a headpiece inspired by a favorite space in the city? The first ever Architects Guild at October’s Arts in the Dark offers a fresh perspective on the spaces we inhabit, encouraging a new appreciation for the built environment around us. A big thank you to this amazing group for their creativity and talent and to @aiachicago and @artsinthedark @luma8chicago for their support. The project was conceived by APB’s Chana Haouzi and Arts in the Dark’s Mark Kelly. All photos by the incredible @eriellebakkumphotography #artsinthedark #chicagoarchitecture #architectsguild So, which buildings or spaces do you recognize?
