☮ Portal to Peace is opening this weekend May 16th from 11am-2pm at Starling by Duo on 3243 W. 16th Street! Our fantastic board member Faraz has been working on this project, and here are some words on the project:
"On my way back from India this winter, I spent time in Mosul, Iraq, bringing artwork representing Mosul made by Chicago artists for an exchange project, and Iraqi artists created work about Chicago in response. Art from both sides will be featured in an exhibition I’m co-curating at Starling, and we’re throwing a launch party this Saturday, May 16.
The exhibition opens at 11 am, followed by a live interpreted conversation with the artists in Mosul at noon. Starting at 12:30 pm, we’ll have Chicago-style hot dogs, Moslawi kebabs, and Middle Eastern and global music from Sheepman, a DJ Nanoos regular, until we wrap up by 2 pm. 📖 📚 Thank you @oakparklibrary for having us host a Community Bike Fix-it Event! Our volunteers fixed over 20 bikes, teaching the owners about bike maintenance along the way and we collected a couple of used ones. Of course we had to bring out our Exercise Record Player Bike, which was a hit!
