We have a couple spots left in our June Ox Bow Class. This one week course will introduce students to Eastern and Western paper making techniques while also providing space and time to develop their own project. We caught a glimpse of Sampson, Ox Bow’s beloved snapping turtle, during our last visit and hope their beautiful face inspires you to sign up! Please reach out if you have any questions. @oxbowschoolofart

We had a wonderful time bringing papermaking to @the_weaving_workshop in Little Village this past weekend. Thank you to all our lovely participants who braved the rainy and snowy Spring weather. We can't wait to open the dry box and see everyone's final pieces in a couple of days! #papermaking #littlevillage

We will be going over watermarks during the workshop. We’ll have a bunch of materials with which to do this, so you can see how each one creates a different impression in the paper. Switch Grass Paper is holding a 2-day workshop (3/14-3/15) at the Weaving Workshop in Little Village! The first day will consist of learning and practicing Western paper-making techniques with hemp and abaca pulp. From there, we will explore different paper interventions like watermarks, inclusions, and stencils, and plan for personal projects the following day.  Paper records every shape and impression—what will you embed in it? We will meet between 1-4 pm on Saturday and 1-5 pm on Sunday, and we invite you bring sketchbooks and flat objects to embed into the paper. Water-friendly clothes and footwear are also a must. We will provide materials, instruction, and light snacks and beverages. Hope to see you there! Check out the Weaving Workshop's site to sign up for our event.

Happy 2026! Starting this year, we have decided to lean into the mobile aspect of the studio. This means that we’ll be bringing you programs in collaboration with various partners throughout the city of Chicago, starting with the re-launch of the Douglas Park Creative Space on January 10 (more on this to follow!). In addition to the parks, you’ll find us teaching at Roots and Rays, Ox-bow, Bari Zaki, and more, so keep an eye out.   Thank you to everyone who has supported our project and followed our progress. We appreciate you and look forward to a fun and productive year of paper making!

We had a warm welcome at West Pullman Park last week, where we taught paper making workshops to two separate groups. We tested out our new 5” x 7” moulds and deckles with Tuesday’s group and they worked great! In our Friday group, a participant brought in plant and flower material and shredded utility bills to share with everyone; we embedded these into the pulp and made lots of compositions. One of the unique features of West Pullman Park is the grove of over 60 oak trees east of the field house. There is a slight rise in elevation of this landscape which marks the site of an ancient river bluff. The oak savannah is a reflection of the native landscape unique to Illinois. Many thanks to Patsy and Derek for making this experience possible! #westpullmanpark #papermaking #oaksavannah

We have made some new 5” x 7” molds and deckles for the studio! These will be helpful for mobile workshops and beginner papermakers. We will be testing these out at our upcoming workshops with West Pullman Park in late September.
