The Emery Grover building was constructed in 1898 as a high school for the Town of Needham. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the building is architecturally significant as a striking example of the Second Renaissance Revival, with a distinctive orange brick exterior, arched openings, and slate roof.
For 50 years, Needham’s School Administration offices have occupied the space. Once the high school population outgrew the building, it was used as overflow educational space, then hastily and inaccessibly used as administration space.
Faced with moving the School Administration or renovating the existing building, Needham residents were concerned that an empty building would invite demolition, and so increased public support saved the building. With creative space usage for offices, meeting spaces, and facilities, along with all aspects being brought up to code, the building was made fully accessible and is now enjoyed by all. Completed in October 2024, the Emery Grover building enjoys a new and improved life in the Town.
Congratulations to the team!
