This summer we went back to the Danube delta for a site-specific residency as part of Coding Drops, a new project that follows last year’s footsteps of the pilot project named AfterLand. This time, the challenge was to tailor the activities according to the artist’s respective ongoing research. @floriama_candea investigates the entangled dynamic of the “invasive” living organisms in the environment, some of which produce photosynthesis and/or are critical for the wetland’s health 🪷 @markijzerman unveils the fragile balance of the delta’s ecosystems by highlighting the relation between chemical and noise pollution, and the wetland’s natural purification processes 💧 @ioana.vreme.moser explores morphological shifts of the land and water through the history of an obsolete navigation system 🌬️ Each theme will translate in the narrative frame of an installation that reflects on different aspects of fluid systems as forms of expression : one that values inter-species relation, one that resists control, and one that embraces uncertainty.  The results will be presented in a series of exhibitions and events, accessible in the following dates and places : - 26 August - 18 September : exhibition at /SAC gallery in Bucharest - 02 October - 12 October : exhibition at Simultan Festival in Timisoara - 04 September : recorded interview at servus.at in Linz A special thank you to @teodorfrolu who kindly hosted us at the Ivan Patzaichin museum in Mila 23, Răzvan Crimschi who guided us through the streets and canals of Sfantu Gheorghe, Stefan Constantinescu who enlightened our perception of the delta through his maps, and Alexandru Dorosencu for the hints and stories to explore. More info about the residency in our latest article (or in bio 👆) : https://obsolete.studio/en/blog/danube-delta-2 Video credits : Diane Pricop, Mark IJzerman, Floriama Candea Partners : Danube Delta National Institute - INFLPR - @muzeulivanpatzaichin , @sacbucharest , @simultan_org , @servus_at , @climato.sfera The project is organised by @qolony.eu , and supported by the @fondul_cultural_national and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Last month we ran the pilot for a new art residency programme in Central Portugal - Ecologias da Água - dedicated to a sensitive relationship with the living world, and specifically with water and wetland ecosystems. Participating artists are invited to discover these ecosystems through walking tours and discussions with guides, scientists and local residents, in order to develop their work in interaction with these ecosystems. For the first edition, we have invited Guy Fleisher, a multidisciplinary sound artist based in Porto, to further develop his work Everyday Sounds. Currently pursuing a PhD in Science and Technology of the Arts at the Center for Research in Science and Technology (CITAR), Guy Fleisher’s research centers on electroacoustic environmental composition and draw inspiration from various acoustic ecology concepts. The residency concluded with participatory activities for the local community, in the form of a creative workshop and a sound performance presenting the results of the workshop and the artist’s fieldwork. 🔎🌿 We invite you to discover two new articles on our website dedicated to this project, highlighting the artistic process and telling the story of the Lis river, the central character of our research, which rises from underground. Links in bio. ⛰️ We would like to take this opportunity to thank again everyone involved in making this project a unique creative and human adventure! For the past couple of weeks at @servus_at Research Lab, we have been working with @ioana.vreme.moser on a « fluidic cookbook ». She came across fluidics in 2019 while looking for alternatives to electronics, and started to research and work with them ever since, leading to some complex artistic productions. Having gathered all sorts of documentation, the idea of making a publication on her project came up. Since 2023, we have been talking about making this happening, but only recently got invited by Davide Bevilacqua at servus.at to use their Research Lab as a dedicated platform to deepen this research together, define a narrative structure, and explore ways of teaching fluidic processes to a wider public. This residency allowed us to raise and address some challenging questions, present the project to the @servus_at and @stwst_linz community through an artist talk and a podcast, and look closer at the fluidic processes through the analogy with electronics during two open labs. More info soon on the Research Labs dedicated webpage, and on Obsolete portfolio. In the meantime, you can read the updated version of article from the Versorgerin from March 2025 : https://versorgerin.stwst.at/artikel/03-2025/fluidic-systems Thank you @servus_at team for offering your support, & the @stwst_linz and @radiofro for sharing your spaces with us ! This residency was also possible thanks to the @culturemoveseurope mobility grant. Credits : @ioana.vreme.moser & Diane Pricop Looking forward to working on the next steps !!

This article follows Robertina Sebjanic’s artistic journey ; from an early fascination of the sea to building her artistic identity around water ecosystems, she has always placed the human / more-than-human relation at the core of her engagement, highlighting its complexity and our responsibility in keeping a healthy balance. Her practice relies on empathetic strategies, collaborative methods and storytelling. She strives to give a voice to all the protagonists involved through the use of sound, visuals, and even sometimes smell, in order to appeal to our senses and connect in depth to our own humanity. Her latest project “Echoes of the Abyss” addresses the impact of decaying munition on marine ecosystems ; a new variation, “Adriatic I: Echoes of the Abyss”, which focuses on the Adriatic Sea, will be presented at the Filodrammatica Gallery in Rijeka from 6th of March 2025, as part of the collective exhibition “(Un)Tamed Sea”, an initiative organised and supported by @oaza_kolektiv and @drugomore , within the framework of @madeinplatform Article link in bio and here : https://obsolete.studio/en/blog/robertina-sebjanic Photo credits : @godec.art , Alexis Gilli, Amin Akhtar
