Beneath their spiky green armour lie the glowing conker warriors, and these ones are ready for a fight 👊 🍂🧨 DIVIDE & CONKER 🧨🍂 Loaned for review by @nodrinksonthetable via @ukbg_review_circle 👥 2-4 players • 👦 8+ years • ⏱️ 30 minutes Draft conkers, hardening techniques and tricks, plus strings from face-down cards, to form your army. Prepare by applying hardeners to your extend your conker crew’s lives and string them up ready to battle. Next, two players choose a conker each and take it in turns to roll their available dice to inflict damage on their opponent until one runs out of health. Tuck the loser under the winning card and reassemble for the next battle. The first round has 3 battles and the second has 4. After Round 1, any conkers still standing gain Veteran status, which gives them a health boost and an extra die to roll in Round 2. Draft more recruits to your chestnut cause and head back into the fray! After all 7 battles, total the victory points of any conkers left in your army, any conkers tucked from won battles, and any Veteran cards, and the player with the most victory points wins 🏅 💭 what I thought.. • I really like the illustrations by @dawid.wiacek.art - the character he’s managed to coax out of these horse chestnuts is simply brilliant! Every time you look at a card a new funny detail will catch your eye, and they have really appealed to my kids who love a graphic novel. • I thought the battle phase was perhaps a little slow at times. Each of the dice has a number of blank faces, with green doing the least damage and black the most, so we occasionally had multiple turns with no damage done! That said, the relief when your conker is hanging by a thread (ha!) and your opponent rolls nada is sweet! • The level of strategy in picking the ideal combos of conker, string and hardener were just right for the 8+ audience, and this game has the potential to become a cracking family staple! My family and I loved giving this game a bash! Prepare for some bold fighting talk and big swings at your table… just no drinks, eh?! 🧨 This is also my submission to #firstimpressionsfriday🎲 @nerdygirlgaming

We may be in spring time .. but I’m bring the autumn vibes to my board gaming 🥰 I recently had the privilege of trying out Divide and conker from @nodrinksonthetable . This is a short battling game where players draft conkers, hardener cards and strings to then assemble for battle. Once players have made their preparations for battle, they will roll the dice against their chosen opponent until one players conker health has been reduced to zero. This is done over two rounds - with seven battles in total. When a player wins a battle, they gain their ppponents conker cards, hardeners and strings. These pertain to victory points and whoever has the most wins! Here’s my thoughts! Liked: That each card has a varying degree of health and power - this means that you need to be strategic in which assemblage required for battle 🍂 I liked the design of the cards - Made the game feel youthful and again, brought a fun element to an inanimate object • I like the different styles of drafting that are adapted to player count • I like the premise of it being a battle themed game What I thought could be improved: 🍂For me the biggest thing was the rule book - it needs clarification about who gets to turn over face down and who gets the string placed there. I also think clarification about who gets veteran cards after battle are needed too! •The chestnut cards need to be amended as the symbolism makes it appear it targets two conkers simultaneously. battling at two and three players can become predictable as you are targeting either the same player or having to switch each time due to not being able to target the same player in a three player. me and my husband and my board game friends gave this game a good several tries ! The game has great potential so hopefully there will be a rerun in the future with minor amendments Thank you to @ukbg_review_circle and @nodrinksonthetable for this opportunity! #battleboardgame #boardgamingreview #ukbgreviewcircle #cardgames #drafting t🍂

Divide and Conker by @nodrinksonthetable (review copy provided via @ukbg_review_circle : opinions always my own.) Players: 2-4 Time: 20-30 Verdict: hard to believe no-one thought of this before! Boil the vinegar, grab the glue, crack your knuckles - it’s conker time! The custom dice are a bit nice, and there's plenty of them for your battles. The cards are the star - packed full of character and charm. And your combos of conker, string and hardener will be critical in the battles to come. Careful in the draft - a mix of face up and face down cards - it's easy to be careless and allow your opponent to nab two strings with one card pick. It’s quite exciting to prep your army: sometimes you’ll draft a cracker of a conker, other times you’ll groan as your opponent nabs a belter. Look, this one connected with the little/big kid in me, alright? I’m not apologising. The nostalgia factor is employed to fine effect here, and I found myself drawn to memories of hazy days drifting home from school as conkers split and knuckles cracked. It hits a sweet spot for family games. Clear, bold rules that everyone can follow, excellent artwork that’s full of fun (some of the cards are pretty funny), and a decent chunk of strategy for us older veterans to enjoy. There’s a touch of cheating in there, so keep an eye on that particular member of your family (you know who I mean). Some reviewers bemoan those who feel that theme is a critical part of a game: well, it is when that theme is strung (lol) through every aspect of the design, such that it evokes that theme perfectly while bringing something new to the table (whoever’s table that may be). Personality goes a long way in board games, and Divide and Conker is a standout. This is a cracking (pun intended) little package, and I feel there is plenty of room for expansion sets, allowing this to become a starter set. It really feels like it has the potential of Doomlings, with excellent artwork allowing for the possibility of themed conker sets. In fact, I demand a crossover, and I'm copywriting the name Conkerlings. Cold, hard cash only please.

My very first trip to @aireconuk — and honestly, what a way to start. Of course, I had to kick things off with the obligatory photo in front of the iconic AireCon sign… but there was no time to hang around because I was immediately drawn to the giant version of Hey That’s My Fish! — and yes, it’s just as fun oversized as you’d imagine. After a quick lap to take it all in (because wow, there’s a lot), I headed outside to meet up with my friend Flav and the @hachetteboardgamesuk team. This is where things got really exciting — I got to demo some of the upcoming Bezel box upcoming titles, and let’s just say… my “to-buy” list is growing rapidly. Their setup was incredible too — loads of space, loads of energy, and constant games hitting the tables. Inside, the shopping temptation was very real. Stalls from @travellingmanuk @gamescrusade , and All Rolled Up made it dangerously easy to “accidentally” expand the collection. And if you’re there to actually play (which… obviously), AireCon absolutely delivers — three massive halls packed with tables, all buzzing with people gaming nonstop. One of the highlights for me was getting to demo upcoming games from a range of publishers. I checked out some titles from @molinarius_games , and Before the Rain and Ocean Pods really stood out — definitely ones to keep an eye on. Then came a super fun moment — I got to play Bald Yeti with Kev, the creator and illustrator himself… and yes, I won. I will absolutely be mentioning that again. Another big highlight was finally meeting Katherine from @nodrinksonthetable in person after chatting online for months — always love when the board game community comes full circle like that. And throughout the weekend, I got loads of games in with new friends — including Pokémon Splendor, which I’ve wanted to try for ages. Apparently Ollie picked it up in Korea… but I’ll let you chase him for that story. AireCon, you were incredible. First time… definitely not the last. I’ll be back every year. 🎲✨

Well... @aireconuk ! What a weekend and a great weekend at that, ignoring the nightmare journey home! It was a weekend of games, demos, saying hi to many new faces and waving at people I know as they walk by. Thank you to everyone who came by to say hi, ask about how its going, to play a game of Divide & Conker or come demo the new game, Boutique Rivals. Very excited for the next couple of months with more conventions and more progress on the new game. #divideandconker #Boutiquerivals #airecon
