We played Undermined! Pairadice City by @devilfly_games Designed by Chris Fisher & Nick Barker
👥 2-6 players
⏰ 30-60 minutes
“Compete to unearth the most treasures before other players while avoiding perils”
⛏️Overview
Roll the dice to dig through the levels of rock to discover the hidden treasures. Earn money to improve your chances through new upgraded tools. Play event cards to get some extra bonuses.
💎What we liked
Love the Western gold rush style artwork
Opportunity to negotiate with other players to help you dig the rock
A great selection of cards to uncover during the game
Optional asymmetric characters to add extra variety to the game
Deciding whether to bank the points or sell your discoveries for the cash
🛢️Considerations
There is an element of luck with the cards which you need to try to mitigate!
We found it very tempting to buy the dynamite every round and blow up as much rock as possible, but maybe that’s just us 😜
Final Thoughts
Accessible and quick to play, this small box game is easy to learn. Ideal for smaller play spaces and even holiday gaming.

REVIEW: Undermined! Pairadice City by @devilfly_games
Undermined! Pairadice City is a light card game set in the Wild West, where the the land is abundant with treasures and you are competing with others players to uncover as many of these treasures as possible.
Gameplay is fairly simple, you start with some standard equipment, and turns see you gaining coins and actioning an event card, shopping for items and selling treasures, preparing for mining and finally choosing items/other players to help you mine by rolling dice equal or above the value of the rock card. Some rocks may give treasures, others might have perils. You continue taking turns until a player gets the required VP total.
Thoughts:
⛏️I liked the progression as you play. You're building your engine somewhat with items and gear that improve your chances of successfully mining. There are a lot of options for purchase including one time use items, and with a limit of the amount you can carry it incentivises you to use items and purchase new ones.
⛏️Luck is an element that crops up, rock cards just may not come up in your favour. You can mitigate this somewhat during the preparation phase by spending money to change the top rock card.
⛏️I do like that theres a chance for treasure or Peril cards.
⛏️I think the negotiation element when asking for support with mining is good.
⛏️I liked the duality of keeping treasures for VP, or selling to gain money in order to purchase items to improve your chances at successfully mining more. Its a fun balance.
⛏️The characters in the expanding offer asymetric abilities and scoring options which I felt added a really good extra layer to the game. It becomes a little more focused. There are a good number of characters allowing you to try out lots of options.
Overall I enjoyed Undermined! Pairadice City, the theme is applied well and the mechanics feel appropriate. The dice rolling and negotiating with other players was fun. Luck is an element which does have some impact and could be a little less enjoyable for some, there are items and events that can help mitigate poor luck though, so planning and carefully managing your treasures is important.

Grab your shiniest pick axe, check in on your canary, pay off two miners in a trenchcoat and head on down into the depths of the mines in search of treasure 💰
Each round, sell your wears, buy new equipment and attempt to tackle the rocks. You could blast your way through several layers of rock, or strike up a deal with the other players to give you a hand. Beware the perils that may pay ahead!
⏳ 30-60m - I would say this is pretty accurate. I thought the first game that he played was about to be over pretty quickly until some of my treasures and trinkets were stolen from right underneath my nose...
🎂 14+ - We're not sure why the age is 14, I'd bet that a 10 year old would be able to grasp the mechanics, but we'd be genuinely interested to why the advisory age was 14.
🧑🧑🧒🧒 2-6 players - Plays nicely at 2, but more people allows for more chance of 'help' from other players!
🖤 What I liked:
* Plenty of ways to mitigate the luck of the dice rolls.
* The player interaction -being able to 'help' the other players moves this game away from being a multiplayer solitaire.
* A small amount of 'take that'.
* The artwork felt really sleek and modern, but still fitting the theme.
✌️ What I would have liked:
* I think a solo mode would have been a brilliant addition!
* More incentive to 'help' each other in a 2 player game.
* More clarity in the rules for the use tokens - we worked out out, but couldn't see a mention.
This is a really solid game. We very much enjoyed the balance between luck and mitigation... And the mean cards, too!
I can also recommend a BOMB Spotify mining playlist to accompany 🎶
Undermined from @devilfly_games was lent to us for review via @ukbg_review_circle and is our pick for #firstimpressionfriday🎲 Undermined is a game for 2-6 players where the aim is to mine rocks to uncover gems. Get to a certain level of VPs and you win the game!
Each turn takes place over 5 steps including shopping for new tools and mining where you roll two dice to see if you have enough strength to break through a rock.
You start with a basic pick axe which adds 2 to your dice rolls but can be used an unlimited number of times and TNT which adds 10 to your roll but can only be used once. You can buy extra items in the shops including more powerful tools and protective gear.
Once you break through a rock you get to uncover an item from the perils and treasures deck. This may be a treasure but may also be a peril which may make you lose money or previously earned treasures. This means its important when you shop to balance tools and protective gear.
The characters expansion adds a lot more depth to the game with a variety of characters you can play which all come with added benefits or twists to the game.
🌈🌈🌈 Points:
-We enjoy the flexibility of this game, you can change the difficulty by using more advanced rock cards and change the end goal VP to make for a shorter or longer game
- Event cards also add a nice twist, adding a lot of player interaction. They may be beneficial for you or may be used to sabotage
-The perils and treasures deck adds a good level of suspense with not knowing whats coming next!
🌧️🌧️🌧️ Points:
-Some more backstory to set the scene would immerse you more in the game
-The characters add a lot of depth so it’s a shame this is an expansion and not in the base game
-There can be a luck element dependant on event cards and treasures/perils you reveal.
Overall we enjoyed this game more than we expected to. The theme isn’t one we would regularly play however it works well and leads to a nice, interactive game. It is fun to use event cards to sabotage a player but can feel frustrating when you mine a large rock to just get a peril card. The character expansion adds a lot more depth

Review 🎲 Undermined: Pairadice City
Overview
It’s a dice-driven, mining-themed board game where players compete to gather resources, upgrade gear, and outmaneuver each other underground. What immediately stands out is its commitment to theme—everything from the mechanics to the artwork reinforces the gritty, realistic mining world it’s built around.
Gameplay & Feel
The gameplay feels dynamic and it is constantly shifting. The inclusion of event cards adds a layer of unpredictability that keeps everyone on their toes—no lead ever feels completely safe. These sudden twists can dramatically alter the course of the game.
The shop system is another highlight. The items available aren’t just abstract upgrades—they feel grounded in the theme, resembling tools and equipment you’d realistically use in a mining operation.
Accessibility
The mechanics are easy to grasp, especially if you’re familiar with dice-based games. However, the added complexity from event cards and expansion abilities may require a bit more explanation for new players. Once everyone understands the flow, though, the game plays very well.
Components & Aesthetic
One of the strongest aspects of the game is its visual presentation for me, I just connected instantly with the theme. The realistic artwork carries throughout, from cards to player elements, everything feels cohesive and thoughtfully designed.
Replayability / Depth
Replayability is high with the event cards and player abilities included in the expansion. No two games feel quite the same, and the uncertainty about who might win keeps players engaged until the very end. The expansion especially enhances depth by encouraging different strategies and playstyles.
Final Thoughts
The game delivers a thematic, unpredictable, and socially engaging experience. The combination of realistic aesthetics in the art work, meaningful item choices and changing gameplay makes it stand out. The expansion is not needed to get this experience, however, when included, it becomes even more compelling, adding strategic depth and player interaction that elevate the game beyond a simple dice roller.

HELLO. YES. IT IS I.
RUSSELL.
I have just returned from the gold-dust-covered, dynamite-infested depths of Pairadice City and I have THINGS TO SAY.
First of all…
This game PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE WITH FUN.
It's a game about mining.
Dig rock.
Find treasure.
Become rich.
SIMPLE!
EXCEPT IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT SIMPLE!
Because every time you smash a rock you’re basically gambling with the universe.
TREASURE?
PERIL?
CHAOS?
YES!!
The game is basically the Wild West gold rush if everyone involved was slightly unhinged and armed with questionable decision making.
Every turn becomes:
“This one’s definitely treasure.”
SMASH
PERIL.
Fantastic.
But wait.
WAIT.
Because we also played with the expansion Personas En Strata!
And then…
AND THEN…
OH BOY.
Now you don’t just run around like a poor unfortunate peasant with a shovel.
NO NO NO.
Now you get PERSONAS.
Actual characters.
With powers.
With buffs.
With abilities that make you feel like a LEGEND.
Suddenly people are pulling off ridiculous combos, stealing treasure, escaping danger, and generally behaving like gold-obsessed goblins with a pickaxe.
And honestly?
IT'S BRILLIANT!!
What I loved:
Super easy to learn
Loads of interaction between players
That “one more game” energy.
The kind of chaos where everyone is laughing!
And the Personas expansion adds just enough flavour and strategy to make every game feel different.
Final verdict?
⛏️If you enjoy: pushing your luck, smashing rocks and messing with your friends, then Undermined! Pairadice City absolutely deserves a spot on your table.
Russell rating!
⛏️⛏️⛏️⛏️⛏️5 Pickaxes out of 5
Now if you’ll excuse me…
I have rocks to smash, treasure to steal and poor life decisions to make.

We played our last game of Undermined! Pairadice City before sending it on to the next reviewer. A game about mining during the gold rush of the American Wild West.
The expansion with the asymmetric character cards really adds to the game and I can't imagine playing without them. Some are preferable to others for each of us, but using them to the best advantage is all part of the game.

Dice rolling, push your luck, negotiation and take that
Having played it a number of times now, the cards have become more familiar and we played quickly through it. There are variations to make it harder and last longer which with the character cards work well.
Although I have said this before, I do like the artwork and the artist Patrice Rameau certainly captured the era it is set in.
Obviously the dice rolls might not roll well for you at times, but the items you buy do make the difference, although it is your fellow miners that might help or hinder you most.
The event cards also have a big impact on your strategy and the various elements of the game blend well together.
It will be good to see what the design team at Devilfly come up with next.

To expand or not to expand? This was the question posed by @boardhoardscored this week for #wildcardwednesday hosted by @han_playsgames
When it comes to Undermined! Pairadice City then the expansion of twelve asymmetric character cards I would say makes the game even better.
There is a good mix of abilities which makes the game a lot more interesting and the characters help provide various advantages whether it be allowing you to draw extra cards to choose from, having the luck of the dice determine additional affects, having the opportunity to gain extra money, carry more items or have a better chance at mining rocks.

Dice rolling, push your luck, negotiation and take that
So if you have the game, then the character cards certainly change it up a fair bit
Any expansion that adds to the variety of the game is always a bonus for me.
