@spaceykacey #KaceyMusgraves is embracing a country homecoming with her new album “Middle of Nowhere.”
Musgraves says one of the album’s buzziest songs, “Dry Spell,” was inspired by a real dry spell that lasted more than a year. “I wanted to let people know how little I had going on,” she says, admitting she had been weighing whether peace and solitude were better than letting the wrong person into her life. The track also features one of her boldest lyrics yet about self pleasure: “Sitting on the washing machine.” Musgraves laughs that it may not be everyone’s favorite line. “It’s not my grandma’s favorite line, but it’s mine, I guess.”
Musgraves says she teamed with Miranda Lambert on the new album despite their feud because “we have two things in common: horses and divorces.” She also confirms the beef over “Mama’s Broken Heart” was very real. “Oh, there was. It was grass fed, grade A.” Musgraves calls the reunion a full circle moment, adding, “We’re both older now and have less energy for dumb sh*t.”
Now embracing every chapter of her story, Musgraves says the heartbreak, chaos and hard lessons are exactly what fuel her songwriting. “It’s real f*cked up, but also funny. There’s a lot to laugh about.”
