story time. i first came across isaac during the pandemic. he was starring as lázaro in the 2020 netflix thriller miniseries “someone has to die” ("alguien tiene que morir"), playing a male ballet dancer. from the moment he came on screen, i was immediately struck by his undeniable presence. i binged all 3 episodes in one sitting, as one did during those trying times.
back then isaac was a lead principal with the english national ballet. he later became a principal at the san francisco ballet, and last year joined @abtofficial as a principal dancer, becoming the first dancer of mexican ancestry to achieve that title in the company’s 85-year history. he is also the first mexican dancer to win the prix benois de la danse, often referred to as the “oscar of ballet.” but beyond all of that lies someone who is as lovely as he is gifted.
it’s taken six years, but here we are. 🖤

A friend recently told me they finally saw “The Last Showgirl” and it reminded me that I’ve had this post sitting in my drafts forever! 😬
The granddaughter of Francis Ford and Eleanor Coppola (and niece to Sofia) was drawn to Kate Gersten’s script about a showgirl (@pamelaanderson ) whose razzle-dazzle revue is canceled. “She had these characters that had so much history and were lovable and flawed,” Coppola said. “And it showed this journey of three different women going through a big change that says so much about our society and how women are pigeonholed.”

This year, Fargeat became just the ninth woman to be nominated for Best Director at the Oscars. The French filmmaker followed up her 2017 debut feature “Revenge” with an audacious tale of self-destruction in which an aging actress (@demimoore ) takes a mysterious elixir that promises to restore her youth. The idea came to Fargeat when she was about to turn 50. “How I felt about my body, how my body was going to be judged … All this, I realized, had such a massive impact on my life and had generated a lot of self-hatred and violence towards myself.”

Born in Amsterdam, Reijn began her career as an actress, starring in films such as Paul Verhoeven’s “Black Book,” before moving into writing and directing. Her English-language directorial debut, the 2022 mystery horror comedy “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. “Babygirl” premiered in Venice, where Nicole Kidman won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. What’s next for Reijn? She’s working on a new script and, while on the red carpet at the Palms Spring International Film Awards, suggested A24 may be involved once again.

There is a charm to Kieran Culkin whose irreverence is disarming—equal parts razor-sharp wit and boyish vulnerability, making him impossible to pin down yet magnetic to watch.
