NEW YORK BY DESIGN Pt. 1 — It’s called NY Design Month 👀 It’s May — which means if you like design, you’re suffering from Milan fatigue… but here we go again. NYCxDesign is here. Some call it Design Week. Industry insiders call it Design Month — because in true New York fashion, no one can agree to keep it to seven days. If Milan is fashion week for furniture, New York is the after-party — smaller, scrappier, and still figuring itself out. This is the start of our New York design month coverage — follow along 🗺️ #NYCxDesign #NYbyDesign #NYDesignWeek #ICFF #AfternoonLight

What a joy it has been to sit back and watch so many @hellohuman.us members celebrated in this year’s Wallpaper* USA 400 - The people shaping Creative America in 2025. And today I’m so proud to share that I’m in there alongside them. When the list came out this week, the first thing I did was scan for our members’ names… I truly didn’t expect to see my own, and seeing it has put a real 🔥 up my butt! It’s moved me to work even harder for the people I’m lucky to share my professional life with. I’m grateful to @wallpapermag @ollymason0 @billprinceinc @michaelreynoldsnyc @anna_fixsen for creating space for community builders and recognizing the role we play in shaping Creative America. This work often happens behind the scenes — creating that rising tide that lifts all boats through opportunities for visibility and storytelling. Our goal has always been to make the design ecosystem even richer, louder, and more connected, and we’ll keep building toward that. Big shout out to the Hello Human team. You all know what it means to care deeply about your work and the community we serve, and I see you putting your big hearts and your big brains into it every day and it’s a real pleasure and inspiration to witness it ❤️ What a week indeed! Going to savor every moment of this!! 🙏 #wallpaperusa400 #wallpapermagazine Animation by @bigbalcony Portrait by @hawkclaw - brings back fond memories of the first design show Hello Human curated (with Aditions) in Milan!

Jenny here from Hello Human! 🙋🏻‍♀️ I’m here to share a major milestone - we’re beyond honored to be featured in @IncMagazine ’s December issue in a story about our journey into making PR accessible for creatives 🎉 This recognition is huge for us, and I’m feeling all the emotions reflecting on how far we’ve come. When I started Hello Human, it was just an idea that could get me working with the designers I’d always admired—and a hope to create a different kind of PR, one that truly worked for small businesses and creatives. Today, it’s a growing community, and this feature is a testament to the incredible team, members, and supporters who’ve been part of this journey. Thank you to @rebeccadecz and @alicdonaldson for seeing something in what we’re building and to @eriktanner for capturing me in a way I could only hope to be seen (with an @oandgstudio miniature chair on my bun! Haha!) —it means more than words can say. And to my amazing team, @clairebutwinick and @aurora_hinz , thank you for your heart, hustle, and belief in what Hello Human could be. I have watched you both persist towards our mission everyday, so much that you have truly embodied it as your own - I am so proud of what we have achieved together. If the feature piques your interest in joining our members club, details are now live on our website (link in bio), and I hope it continues to be a space where creatives can connect, share, and grow. 💛 With gratitude, Jenny

American hardware has a sameness problem — and one of design’s sharpest editors is tackling it. Monica Khemsurov ( @monicanina ), co-founder of @_sightunseen_ , has built a decade of #doorporn from Modernist buildings across Europe. This week @petrahardware opens its first permanent showroom in SoHo at 481 Broadway — the U.S. home for what Monica calls “the jewelry of the home.” 💎💍 🎨 Designers featured in order: Dutch artist Reinoud Oudshoorn. @platformstudio.world @_n.shook_ @pamelalove @chriswolston @la.lland @alexis_and_ginger @butrome The smallest detail in the room, finally treated like art. Next NY by Design episode dropping soon. #NYbyDesign #ArtisticHardware #NYCXDesign #PetraHardware

SALONE DECODE Pt. 23 — Design is Asia-maxxing 👀 Why is design suddenly treating Asia as a force, instead of just a reference? What we saw in Milan went beyond trend — it pointed to a broader shift in who is shaping the global design conversation. In order of appearance: 🪑 @aiww x @rubelli_group 🪑 @cromotea 🪑 @s3.site 🪑 @dropcity_org 🪑 @usmmodularfurniture x @popmart 🪑 @tmagazine For decades, design looked to Europe as its primary reference point. Now, Asia isn’t just being referenced — it’s setting the agenda. The question isn’t whether brands should expand their lenses. It’s whether they’re ready to share it. That’s a wrap on Salone Decode 2026. Next stop: New York Design Week — follow along 🗺️ #MilanDesignWeek #SaloneDelMobile #SaloneDecode #Asiamaxxing #Chinamaxxing

SALONE DECODE Pt. 22 — The Manosphere Lands in Milan 👀 Did anyone else notice this? Masculinity is having a moment culturally — and design is reflecting it. This year traded soft curves and plush textures for something more controlled, engineered, and optimized. A new kind of “man cave” is emerging — less leather armchair, more architectural minimalism. Tech-forward, emotionally restrained, and built around status objects. Is design preparing for a new kind of consumer? Let us know what you think. #MilanDesignWeek #SaloneDelMobile #SaloneDecode #Manosphere #DesignTrends

SALONE DECODE Pt. 21 — When did Milan Design Week become a food festival? 👀 Design’s obsession with food was everywhere this year. We think it points to something bigger — designers returning to the basics. Food as ritual, as status, as community, as culture. In order of appearance: 🍝 @solid_nature 🍝 @gucci 🍝 @ikea x @phaidonpress 🍝 @studioyellowdot x @barilla 🍝 @gaggenauofficial 🍝 @uzbekistanmdw 🍝 @marni x @pasticceria.cucchi 🍝 @lailacooks x @arketofficial #MilanDesignWeek #SaloneDelMobile #SaloneDecode #FoodDesign #DesignTrends

SALONE DECODE Pt. 19 – Why it Looks Like That with @StudioLugo See how this piece of furniture almost looks like it’s blooming? This collection by Studio Lugo is made using alpaca metal — an alloy that behaves unpredictably under heat, causing the surface to ripple and separate as it forms. Instead of correcting those “imperfections,” designer @DorukKub leaves them visible — treating seams like stitching, and allowing the edges to peel back and open. The Resonance collection at @alcova.milano is about letting the process leave a trace — showing time, heat, and handwork instead of erasing them. SALONE DECODE PT. 18 - Why It Looks Like That – ZE Sofa by Lichen x Karimoku @karimoku / @karimoku_research just brought a forgotten 1982 sofa back to life — and it’s just made its Milan debut. The ZE Sofa was originally designed for corporate reception rooms and boardrooms. @lichennyc , a Queens-based studio with a serious eye for vintage, spotted it tucked between two floors of Karimoku’s Japanese showroom and knew instantly it needed to come back. @edddbe and @jaredtblake_ of Lichen made subtle updates to bring it into the home, but everything that made it special in 1982 is still there. The Miilan show is called “Research Published as Furniture” — four furniture brands, a conceptual lounge, and ambient music recorded inside the Karimoku factory in Japan. #SaloneDecode #WhyItLooksLikeThat #MilanDesignWeek #ZESofa #SaloneDelMobile
