This Thursday, we are pleased to launch, Amica. A new collection of lighting by @kawabi and @merchant.christopher for Assembly Line. The title refers to the spirit of friendliness and creative kinship the designers developed as they shared sketches and prototypes like letters between their neighboring studios. The resulting pieces pair Merchant's expressive, hand-built ceramic bases in rich, earthy tones with Kawabi’s voluminous, flowing shades crafted from Japanese kozo paper.
“Amica offers a glimpse at how a spirit of generosity and cooperation allowed us to coexist when different, borrow when inspired, and merge when aligned. Ultimately, it gave us room to unearth understanding in the nuances,” says Irisa Chan-Kawabi.

Our latest iteration of The Residence at 144 Vandebilt Ave marks the first collaborative project between Assembly Line and Los Angeles-based design studio Kalon, anchored by an expansive installation of their furniture. Favoring restraint, craft, and tactile richness, Kalon’s pieces foreground honest materials, warmth, and objects designed to age with time.
