Domestic Disco Artist Highlight: Rachel Shillander
Rachel Shillander of LLand presents a mirrored baptismal font that is both a cross and a compass in Domestic Disco.
“The cross has played a large role in human evolution and thought,” she says, “It’s how we locate ourselves in space, understand mathematics, and is the geometric framework for dualistic thinking… à la Descartes.”
The water filled disco bowl, its base bedazzled with the cardinal directions, is meant to interact with the sun, reinterpreting our relationship to the cosmos in the resulting refracted spectral light splatter.
Domestic Disco is on view through April 24.
