Supermodel @ambervalletta tries to fold her pro-environmental ethos into every corner of her life, including her home. Thus, she, her fiancé, the fashion hairdresser Teddy Charles (@teddycharles35 ), and her friend the Los Angeles–based interior designer Ross Cassidy (@mrrosscassidy ), have worked to turn a new hilltop house in Los Angeles into a model of sustainability. Once she found her most recent home—a partially built six-bedroom house, on the edge of a rural canyon—she called Cassidy, with a mandate: Create a home that is “extremely calming and feels like a sanctuary—a place where, when you come in from the world, you can exhale,” she says. And be as environmentally friendly as possible. Step inside the star's eco-friendly sanctuary in our April cover story at the link in our bio. At jewelry designer Madina Visconti di Modrone's (@madinavisconti ) new pad, funky textiles by @houseofhackney amp up the living room, where pink satin and blue velvet sheathe upholstered seating. Meanwhile, works from friends and family, among them poufs from @dimorestudio and her mother’s light fixtures, mix with family heirlooms. “My grandmother texts me pictures of anything she’s getting rid of,” says Visconti di Modrone, adding with a laugh, “She likes to joke that I take everything.” Peek inside the colorful, historic home at the link in our bio. “The client really wanted an outdoor shower—it was on his wish list,” #ADPRODirectory designer Heidi Woodman (@heidiwoodmaninteriors ) says. “Even though they are not able to use the shower year-round, they still get gorgeous sunlight and it brings the outside in. The shower opens from the top.” A small Emil lantern from @rtolighting complements a custom mirror. Take a tour of the new home at the link in our bio. Throughout designer Nancy Mah's Upstate New York home, white-oak surfaces nod to the landscape, whether in the case of the living room’s Grade A veneer plywood ceiling or the bedrooms’ rough-sawn planks. For a newly blended family in San Francisco, home is not just the place they lay their heads at night. It’s a respite where they are building a life together. This 3,500-square-foot two-bedroom house in the city’s hills marked a fresh start for a couple with a young daughter. They tapped local #ADPRODirectory design firm Chroma (@chromasf ) to create it in their vision: comfortable, colorful, and intentionally dedicated to their hobbies. The dusty pink open-plan kitchen was custom made by Paris-based designers Moveis Mendes for the clients, who wanted a juxtaposition of clean graphic lines against the traditional architecture. “We wanted the interior to be joyful and these colors have created that for us,” the homeowner says. A paisley-printed linen called Quercy, from Borderline, covers walls in a guest bath of this Normandy estate. The decorative painting with the tassels behind the tub was created by Dominique Bouillon of La Boîte Noire, which executed projects throughout the house. When #ADPRODirectory designer Heidi Woodman (@heidiwoodmaninteriors ) met the owners of this Indianapolis property, they told her how much they loved the charisma of the home they were leaving behind. “They really fell for its character, since it was a historic home from the 1920s,” she says. “They wanted this one to emulate that same feeling.” The only issue was that their future address in the Meridian Kessler neighborhood was an entirely blank slate. Woodman would be tasked with creating character out of spaces built from the ground up alongside contractor Mark Adams and architectural designer Gary Nance (@garynancedesign ). There would be nothing of the past to preserve, no charm to enhance and hold on to. If Woodman was going to succeed at cultivating a sense of earned comfort, then she would have to find a way to intertwine a classic feel from a modern perspective. An Italian Alberto Donà Murano glass Poliedri chandelier, circa 1985, centers the living room, which is encapsulated in a deep jewel-toned blue paint by @ressource_americas . #ADPRODirectory designer @sashabikoff shows off her ability to effortlessly blend design eras, as evidenced by a midcentury modern modular sofa resting across from a pair of 1940s French bergère chairs draped in a @lamaisonpierrefrey fabric. It’s a winter morning in upstate New York and designer Nancy Mah is settling into her work-from-home rhythms as she pivots between Zoom meetings, emails, sketches, and renderings. Sun streams through the windows. Nature looms large beyond the glass. And the mania of Manhattan, where she lived for the better part of her adult life, feels blissfully far away. That vibe—calm, cozy, considered—is in many ways what Mah was after when she began the process of building the house, her first ground-up project and a story that, creatively speaking, began decades ago.
