Something to prove. Nothing to prove. I’ve spent most of my life somewhere between the two and I’m not sure I’ll ever land. What I know is this: when you show up purely for the work, not the validation or the performance, the work shows up for you. Every single time. Anyway. Your new AD covergirl is here. 😮‍💨💚💚💚 Thank you to the entire @archdigest team including, @amyastley @samuelcochran @michaelsshome @orelnyc @dorciakelley @tiffanistyles @oliveefloral @artdealer.global @bortolamigallery and of course @maureenme . Seeing me and trusting me with this as much as I trusted you. For being patient with my journey and the story I so deeply want to tell. More to come. Newsstands April 28!

“Like many creative visionaries, furniture designer Mark Grattan prefers to let his work speak for itself. In many cases, it does so effortlessly. Plush beds wrapped in rosy velvets and polished chrome exude louche glamour and unabashed sensuality; brown lacquered desks with drooping legs tease the eye. Yet the man behind those alluring pieces, which have landed in the Brooklyn Museum and the Smithsonian’s permanent collections, has long guarded a far more private side. “I’m someone who is often misunderstood in real life,” explains Grattan, who struck out on his own after helming Mexico City furniture studio VIDIVIXI for eight years and now runs a mostly one-man operation in Brooklyn. “The truth is, I have a hard time showing affection even in my closest relationships. It isn’t what’s happening inside, but it’s the version of me that people get.” I recommend the read / link in bio. Thank you @ryanwaddoups + @galeriemagazine for such a thoughtful piece. The Hermanx Table, by the multidisciplinary designer Mark Grattan, embodies the tension between simplicity and complexity — where refined form meets the depth of material and process. Grattan first developed the concept in Mexico City through early material explorations. The project evolved with the introduction of Vermont Fantastico Danby marble, harvested from one of the largest underground quarry in the world. From this material, a continuous S-shaped gesture was carved, weaving fluidly through the piece and defining its form. The transition from wood to marble was a pivotal moment in the table’s development, with Precision Stone playing a key role in translating the design across materials. As Grattan shared, “You see the hand, you feel the time, you feel the exhaustion, and you feel the hours put into this. That’s what creates that timelessness — that sense of heirloom — and that’s the commitment to craftsmanship.” We couldn’t agree more — it’s a philosophy our team at Precision Stone brings into every step of the process. The statement piece was developed in collaboration with ABC Worldwide Stone and fabricated by Precision Stone, where this iteration in natural stone pushed scale and perception. The creativity of our artists and team continues to drive a constant surge of inspiration. To explore the story further and see the process in motion, we invite you to watch the full documentary at hermanxreimagined.com. Step inside designer @markgrattan ’s Brooklyn brownstone, featured in @archdigest ’s May issue, where bold animal print, Kelly green, and rich wood instantly command attention. An expressive palette is thoughtfully balanced by considered details, while window coverings strike the perfect balance of form and function. See more of his space at the link in bio.

The Weight of It: Hermanx Reimagined offers an intimate look into the mind and process of @markgrattan - where material, emotion, and evolution collide. From quarry to final form, the short documentary film traces the transformation of his iconic Hermanx table into a monumental marble sculpture, revealing the pressure, purpose, and poetry behind the work. This is more than a design story. It’s about what it means to revisit something you’ve already made…and carry it forward. Still catching our breath after an unforgettable night at the Village East by Angelika. What began as a story about a table became something much more - thanks to @markgrattan , a story of an artist’s journey. And it wasn’t until we experienced it with all of you that we truly felt its weight. That’s the power of community. You showed up, asked thoughtful questions, and carried the conversation far beyond the theater. And we’re so grateful. Thank you to @tiana_webb_evans for the grace of her moderation, to Mark Grattan for trusting us with his story, and to @julieannflorio and @micaspicka for bringing it to life so beautifully. That’s Zumbi dos Palmares. I found his bust with a local in São Paulo. Didn’t know who he was or what his past held, but something in me knew I wanted him in my presence. Turns out he and his wife Dandara led one of the very first anti-slavery revolutions in the Americas, building and defending a kingdom of 30,000 escaped African slaves deep in the mountains of Brazil. They turned down a deal that would’ve freed them while leaving others in chains, and fought to the very end for total freedom. Every November 20, Brazil honors them both. That day is called Black Consciousness Day In Portuguese that would be ‘Dia da Consciência Negra’ Photo by @maureenme Story by @samuelcochran Styling by @dorciakelley @archdigest cover story May 2026 Light Pendant by @flos Window treatments by @hunterdouglas Furniture by me

My Tiny Kitchen: No permission just audacity. Ask for forgiveness instead. Plumbing and gas lines relocated. Kitchen gutted. Giving half kitchen, half bar. The mirror backsplash brings the whole space online. If you’ve lived in a New York rental, you know the non-functioning half ledge usually right at the kitchen transition, cutting space for no reason. That was here too. I opened this kitchen up about 40 inches. In my experience, rentals are always neglected especially kitchens and baths. This was no exception. Appliances by @jennair Kitchen fixtures by @kohler

The Green Room.
The heart of the apartment. Everything draws from here —
color, texture and ideas. The only piece of furniture I ever bought was a custom @usmmodularfurniture desk — this exact green.
It stole my heart. No room for her now. Now realized in Direct Green by @sherwinwilliams . THICK altar for mom, not yet set. Hardware pulls by @h.theophile — jeweling the wardrobe closet in polished nickel. My beloved CAFE CON LECHE at center showing out in polished stainless steel. She will be on a pedestal by summer.
