💡Object of the Month: Showcasing designs from across the UNESCO Design Cities Network 💡 We’re glad to share another Object of the Month! 🇺🇳 Utilising our window space at Central Library (@DundeeLibraries ), we display a different design object every month from across the Cities of Design Network. Our November object is: 🗣️’Solar’ Screenprint (2024) 📍Querétaro, Mexico ‘Solar’ is a limited run screenprint by Mexican artist Rodrigo Oñate Roco (also known as @roco_drilo ). Roco’s work looks at the relationship between humanity and nature through fantastical worlds. He is influenced by 1980s pop culture, comic books and graffiti. The print’s design is inspired by Olmec colossal heads, giant human heads sculpted from large boulders. The Olmec were a Mesoamerican civilization who lived from roughly 1200 to 400 BCE in what is now modern-day Mexico. The large head in this image is surrounded by items found in Roco’s family home. The overall design represents protection, home and unity. ‘Solar’ was previously exhibited at @dnd_designfest 2024. ❤️ Querétaro was designated a UNESCO City of Design in 2019. We're delighted to share that we are a finalist in the Net-Zero category of this year's @dundeeandangus Chamber Champion Awards! 🏆 This award nomination celebrates our public commitment to environmental sustainability through the delivery of @dnd_designfest 2024. 🏭 Our 2024 host venue @msipdundee is powered by both clean energy (from onsite wind turbines) and sustainable energy (from the nearby Baldovie Energy from Waste Facility) and supported us to create one of the world’s most sustainable design festivals. 🚐 Our fully electric sustainable transport partner @rideember with direct routes from Edinburgh and Glasgow, and a bus stop directly outside MSIP, ensured our visitors, designers, staff and volunteers travelled to and from the site in a sustainable way. ♻ We achieved our aim of using less than 15% virgin materials across the festival's infrastructure which included using miss-tinted waste paint stock and borrowing or hiring items rather than creating brand new infrastructure. After the event, our festival materials were donated, sold on and stored for future events to avoid unnecessary wastage. You can read about Dundee Design Festival 2024 via the link in our bio, and you can vote for us in this award category from Monday 30th June! 🌟 Dundee Design Festival is a regular event devised and delivered by @designdundee . The 2024 edition was curated by @stacey___hunter of @localheroesdesign . 📸 @grantandersondotme / DDF24 Festival team photography

Our friends at @mybtextiles1900 have launched their crowdfunder! FLOCC is a Scotland–Netherlands collaboration turning MYB Textiles’ lace waste into natural flock fibre for textiles, paper & beyond. With early support from the EU WORTH Partnership and a showcase at Milan Design Week 2025, they are now ready to scale up — and need your help to get there. 🎁 Supporters can enjoy unique rewards: • A behind-the-scenes MYB Mill tour • Lace design & cotton flocking workshops • Your own batch of our natural fibre … and more! Thank you for helping bring @flocc__ to life! If you are at @propostefair this week, Margo and the team are also showcasing this project today at their stand! /p/flocc-cottonflockfibre

First stop today @alcova.milano where @nick_______ross presents his collaboration with @contemfurniture The King's Hat — a collection crafted from the pruned branches of linden trees from Kungshatt. It's a thrill to see such outstanding #scottishdesign in Milan. 🇮🇹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Also pictured are Nick's sandstone bookends that I commissioned last year for @dnd_designfest “The Artefact #14 bookends are a continuation of a project of mine, which looks at Scotland’s historical and contemporary connection with sandstone.” Numbered like archaeological discoveries, the pieces nod to ancient Pictish stones and the symbols they reference. “As someone who has moved away from Scotland, I wanted to create something referencing an idea of ‘Home’ rather than travel.”
