tactility sits at the heart of the pieces. softened edges, generous thickness, and subtle surface variation invite touch and everyday use. details draw gently from the flat’s original features, allowing new work to sit alongside old — familiar, but not imitative.

the geometry of the set follows the bay window, and draws from both the original features of the flat and the introduced curves and arches of the renovation, allowing furniture and architecture to read as one continuous gesture. against the calming presence of the sea, it holds shifting light, weather, and view – a quiet threshold between inside and out.

curved anatomy was central to the design, rounded edges and profiles link to the softened corners and arches introduced throughout the redesigned flat – while echoing the movement of the waves just outside – allowing the furniture to feel embedded within the architecture rather than added to it. the soft shapes and curves link

oak serving table for HARVEST: Contemporary Craft Fair.
only this weekend left to grab yourself some beautiful craft (I couldn't help buying a @cambiddell mug earlier this week) and bask in the huge variety of talent on show.

a few highlights from the private view of HARVEST: Contemporary Craft Fair last night. it's a real privilege to be a part of this multi-disciplinary exhibition, @stacey___hunter and her team have done an incredible job creating this living showroom and if you're in Edinburgh anytime soon it's definitely worth a visit.

super stoked to have been selected to take part in HARVEST: Contemporary Craft Fair this October alongside a bunch of my favourite Scottish makers.

a few more shots from my Howe Street project, with a bonus Sook.
all pieces were made from the same wind fallen oak tree from Ford in Dumfries. beautiful characterful trees for beautiful, characterful furniture.
Howe Street dining table and stools in scottish oak.
made for a private client last year, the design focused on the natural beauty of the timber and the craftsmanship of the maker. the collection allowed me to utilise traditional joinery methods, using breadboard ends for the table top and visible wedged mortise and tenons throughout. looking ahead to future projects this remains firmly on the inspiration board. a really enjoyable project.
a few beautiful pictures of my three legged chair from a few weeks back at the Scottish Furniture Makers Exhibition at Dalkeith Palace taken by the equally beautiful @tinasorensenphotography .
I'm properly back in a new workshop for the first time in 4 months (thanks horses and knee surgery) and currently have some space in the calendar so get in touch if you have a project, collaboration or commission you've been thinking about.
I'll have a stand at the Trading Post market this Sunday down at Custom Lane in Leith. There will be a few bowls and bits and bobs made from the offcuts of my last few commissions, as well as some larger furniture pieces.
I've been a bit here there and everywhere over the last few months moving workshops, getting work finished for exhibitions and toiling with the NHS knee surgery waitlist so this will be the only market I do this year. It's been great to have a focus for the last couple weeks, and it would be lovely to see as many of you there are possible. There are some really fab other makers, designers, chefs, distillers and crafters there as well as some winter workshops so you'll be spoiled for choice.
Trading Post | 01.12.24 | Custom Lane, Leith.

a visit to Tim Stead's workshop and home yesterday in Blainslie, Scottish Borders.
an inspired furniture maker, sculptor and renovator. although often times too excessive for me, the tactility of his work is unlike many other designers I've come across. all his work has a warmth, an invitation to touch, or play or engage with that is really special. his ethos of home and community, which is echoed throughout the steading, is equally powerful.
