No Trespassing - my second single for my solo project, mpthy, is out today 🐦‍⬛ this track was born 5 years ago from the ig story of a friend I screenrecorded and sampled. it sat in my hard drive for 3 years until I found myself in the states on October 7th and got some inspiration for the lyrics. then, another year of sitting in the drive until it was finally mixed and mastered last year. for whatever reason I just never felt the need to release it, and didn’t feel it was time for it to be out in the world. but now, it all feels very timely. it started with a sample from the states, the instrumentation inspired by the states, and the lyrics from signage and experiences in the states. I think it speaks for itself what I’m thinking about and talking about. the cover is a photo from my family archives (taken by my father, I presume, around the 1960s) in Communist Romania behind the Iron Curtain. every aspect of cultural, economic, political, and social life was controlled by the regime and the secret police. cameras, film, and darkrooms were hard to come by, and photography was restricted to only depicting “happy” every day life that promoted the communist state. available on @ninaprotocol , @bandcamp , and wherever else you stream music <3 produced & mixed by @dearmpthy mastered by @basic_mastering merci à @borin_comjaja et @basic_mastering pour leur support ★

spring spirits in the northern hemisphere

a few weeks ago, i got to play the first show of the second season of my residency, Universe Convenience, on @radio.sofa at their brand new location @antenne.47 ⋆˚꩜｡ it’s such a treat to get this project out of the studio and into the public in a brand spankin new radio cafe. Paris really needed a space like this, and i have so much gratitude for the invitation to be a part of it ♡ Universe convenience is the idea of releasing and letting the universe guide us and our choices. each show has a different theme based on a tarot card that i pull at random. i also pull a card from the Oblique Strategies deck, which is a deck of cards created by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt to help overcome creative blocks. genre varies show by show, the through-line being the theme. the theme for this show is “clarity of spiritual connection” - inspired by the tarot card, the Hierophant. the oblique strategy is “trust in the you of now” really happy with my track choices on this one <3 ☆ full archive is up on SoundCloud my show airs again tomorrow, and every last Tuesday of the month at 19:00 CET / 1pm EST 𓇢𓆸 if you’re in Paris, come say hi !! if you’re online, join the chat @ radio-sofa.com ⋆˚꩜｡

I had so much fun playing at @lithium.paris last week. It’s been a long time since I selected so many lyric-heavy tracks, but this flow of mixing is how I first learned to dj. When I was in high school I used to make mix cds for all my friends, and I thoughtfully curated the tracklists of every mix cd so the intros and outros would flow seamlessly with harmonious key signatures and surprise beat and genre switches. When we graduated, I gave all my friends a special mix cd as a graduation gift. I remember that particular mix also had a track by The Books (Cello Song) and if I remember correctly, When I’m Small by Phantogram and Answer by Tyler the Creator followed soon thereafter. My friends and I drove around all summer listening to that cd, reminiscing on the last days of our youth. Mix cds always remind me of driving and driving always reminds me of the radio, so selecting the tracklist for Lithium led me down a rabbit hole of moody 90s groovers I would love to sing along to with the windows rolled down. I’ve also been rewatching Buffy lately, so, in my imagination, this mix is playing at The Bronze, and Buffy and Faith are swaying to this Curve track (my favorite). But of course, I still wove in some ambient, bassy low-end, and experimental surprises. Hope you enjoy the listen <3 full video on YT and full mix up on SC

had such a lovely time sharing all my fav idm, low-end, dubby and bassy tracks of the moment a few weekends ago for @whisper_collectif meditation session. Coming off a cold and in the midst of fashion week, a night of 16-250 Hz and dub sirens was exactly what I needed to reset my system lol. I also had the absolute pleasure of teasing an unreleased collab with @huda_thunk to open the set. had a very sweet and memorable time in September playing my first festival @edenafestival , founded by @lazy_rec 🦌🧚🪾who really poured all her heart into creating such a well curated, intimate, and environmentally respectful micro-fest in one of the most beautiful regions of France, le Pays basque. I was given the honor to close out the festival, which happened to be my first closing set. By fortune, the weekend’s gathering also coincided with the total lunar eclipse in pisces, which added another level to the mystique already set in place.
