breakdown is probably one of our oldest tracks. we teased its release in 2021, and the first part of the track hasn’t changed much since then. The vocals in the intro were recorded in one take during our first writing session for the song. The second half of the track took us a few years to complete, and we are still constantly updating it and exploring different genre styles. The latest version we’ve been playing live has more of a triphop drum break. this track is the closing crescendo of the EP, and an ode to vulnerability and trust. A better world will come about through relationships and communities in which we can be completely sincere and vulnerable, in moments of joy, but also, and above all, in moments when everything is falling apart. 🤍🪽

addicted is the ep’s ballad, and the brightest track on the project, a sort of thematic mirror to “blood and rain.” Here we evoke true connection - mutual, intense, beautiful. We maintain a double meaning and an ominous layer with this idea of addiction, and the temptation to focus only on a relationship between two people, forgetting the world around them. Joanne made this demo one late night in her old shared apartment, hidden under the sheets and singing softly into the microphone of her headphones. We re-recorded the guitar and lead vocals, but the ethereal background vocals and most of the instrumental track come from that session and have remained the same 🪽

blood and rain is the thematic turning point of the EP. The first three tracks are very focused on the world as it is, and the last three are more focused on how to make it better. blood and rain is the bridge between these worlds. It’s an attempt at healing through connection, in this case romantic and physical. Joanne evokes her desire for an honest and simple relationship with someone who cannot or will not open up and accept it. It’s the solemn acceptance that many people are often too afraid to break out of their patterns for new experiences and connections - and the reminder that remaining in negative behavioral and thought loops is destructive, and can prevent you from truly, deeply connecting with others. The basis for this track was written as part of a film concert organized by @martaskoczen based on animated short films by @marin.martinie . It was originally a 4-bar loop that we improvised on with vocals, guitar, and violin based on the images. But we loved it so much that we turned it into a full-fledged track 🕯️

rocket usa is a cover of @suicidebandofficial eponymous track from 1977. We’re big fans of Suicide’s first album, particularly because of the ultra-repetitive and hypnotic nature of their music, which resonates strongly with our own way of composing. We thought of covering this track for a few years, keeping it on a list of ideas, and it was only until we heard it in Alex Garland’s Civil War that made up our minds to finally make our version. Musically, we were very inspired by Smerz’s cover of Girls Just Want to Have Fun; we wanted to go in the same direction of reinventing the form of a classic whose substance is still super relevant, and take an ethereal, autotuned approach. That’s how we decided to make it a triphop dirge for the crash of the United States. We composed it in one night, and Joanne recorded the vocals in one take on an SM58 in her bedroom. 🛣️

Our second track on the better world ep, octobre, is a reflection on the powerlessness we feel in the face of the current state of the world. We have access to a wealth of information at any given moment, but paradoxically, it is this unlimited access that paralyzes our will to act. The title comes from the month in which the song was written, but also evokes October 7th and the genocide of the Palestinian people, a grim example among many others of an overabundance of evidence and unbearable images of the horrors or our times, with very few people seeming able or willing to do anything about it. This song came quite naturally in one go. Robin wrote the instrumental in a few hours while waiting for Joanne to arrive for a studio session. When she heard it, she was immediately won over, and we discussed the theme together and decided on a structure with two verses, each of us exploring the theme through our own language and perspective. The mirrored lyrics in both languages happened by chance, as we wrote our own verses individually without each other’s input. 🍂

With almost two months since the release of our ep, we wanted to offer a track-by-track guide to share the meaning of each song for us, and our creative process. Starting with the eponymous overture, “better world,” which sums up the project’s central theme with the mantra, “in a better world, I’d be better.” Here, we reveal the set and setting for our story, where we have come from, where we would like to go, where we are now, and leading to the plea that we would be better if the world would be better. In this track and more globally on the project, we explore the impact that our physical, social and political environments have on us. Joanne’s lyrics develop the vision that it is systemic power, rather than sporadic and individual actions, that crush or liberate individuals. This track came to life during a jam session a few years ago in an old apartment bedroom over a funky lo-fi bedroom-pop beat. We put it aside, and when we started choosing the EP tracklist, it seemed obvious to redo an updated version of the instrumental while keeping the lyrics, as they summed up our feelings about this moment in our lives and in history. ~

2025 has just come to a close, and it was a remarkable year for AU SOL, where everything accelerated and we were finally able to share the things we had been working on behind the scenes for a long time. The reception of better world exceeded our expectations, and we are so grateful for it. To kick off 2026 on the right foot, we’re offering the live version of Ulysses Pact 888, recorded during the EP release party at @le_sample_bagnolet by the best @pierrelbbb . It’s an old track from our ambient side, reorchestrated for the occasion. We’ll be exploring this musical direction further this year, so stay tuned. And to accompany it, here’s a little visualizer with images shot in Robin’s native countryside on this snowy Christmas Day. The full video is on youtube, and the full live track is on soundcloud and bandcamp. Links in the usual places <3 Blessed New Year to everyone, and see you soon! ₊˚。⋆❆⋆。˚₊ 2025 vient de s’achever et ça a été une année de fou pour AU SOL où tout s’est accéléré et où on a enfin pu vous présenter les choses sur lesquels on taffé dans l’ombre depuis longtemps ! our first EP, better world is out now! ⟢٠࣪⭑✮⋆˙ we’re so happy to share these six tracks, in which we have poured so much of ourselves and our influences. We wanted to explore the temptation to give in to apathy, in a world where we are aware of everything but feel we have no control over anything (or very little). And, beyond this bitter observation, we wanted to explore how to build connections with people and communities in which we can be totally vulnerable, in order to heal ourselves and others. better world, octobre, rocket usa, blood and rain, addicted, and breakdown. Now the project is yours. Listen to it, share it, make it your own. We hope it resonates with you. Thank you @basic_mastering for the incredible work on the mix and master. Thank you to all the friends who listened to our music and encouraged us, from the first demos to the final tracks. And thank you @suicidebandofficial for creating something as timeless as Rocket USA. Kisses, and see you soon on stage and elsewhere. available to listen everywhere, link in bio written & produced by us mixed & mastered by @basic_mastering ~ Notre premier EP better world est dispo sur toutes les plateformes !
