🌈 Here’s a behind the scenes video of how I was able to create Climate Cooldown! 🌈
It took just over 3 years to make from concept to final product. We often play games without considering what it took to create them, so I thought that it would be cool to share some of the work that it took to go into making this game.
🌱 Some of the lessons I’ve learned from creating my first analog game are:
💡 Be persistent and never give up, even when it seems overwhelming at times.
💡 Ask for help! Reach out to friends, family and the community to get feedback.
💡 Don’t be afraid (have the courage to) make big changes to try different things out before you finalize the game.
💡 When you’re making changes to the game, just remember what inspired you to create it in the first place–don’t lose the heart of the game!
I hope that this is an inspiring video for those who are looking for a fun board game to play; for those who are looking for a way to learn more about the climate crisis; and lastly, for anyone who might want to create a board game themselves!

Every Earth Day (and not just on Earth day) I notice two kinds of content related to climate.
One that tells us the planet is dying and we're out of time.
The other tells us to take action like planting a trees, and to believe in yourself.
How much do these resonate with you beyond April 22nd each year if at all?
I've facilitated climate education with hundreds of students, and the ones who leave most empowered aren't the ones who got scared straight or the ones who got a feel-good pep talk.
They're the ones who got a chance to play — to actively participate, to strategize together, to disagree at times, to imagine and reimagine outcomes for the future. That's what I try to build with game-based learning.
