Sixth Street Between Waterman Avenue and Pedley Road in San Bernardino to Temporarily Close The City of San Bernardino advises motorists that a portion of Sixth Street will be closed for approximately six weeks in both directions between Waterman Avenue and Pedley Road beginning Monday, May 18. The coordinated closure will allow multiple utility infrastructure improvements, including water, sewer, and gas work, prior to additional street improvements being performed. Although the closure impacts only a small segment of Sixth Street, through traffic will not be permitted in either direction during construction. Traffic control signs and electronic message boards will direct motorists to detour routes, including Fifth Street and Ninth Street. No businesses will be directly affected by the closure, and continued access to all businesses on Sixth Street will remain available throughout construction. The closure, part of the City’s homeless navigation center construction project, is expected to continue through early July. For more information, please contact the City of San Bernardino Public Works Department at (909) 998-2400. #sanbernardino #proud2beSB #SanBernardinoCA #livinglifesb

San Bernardino Library Expands Free Legal Advice Program Lawyers in the Library, a partnership between the San Bernardino Public Library and Inland Counties Legal Services (ICLS) has expanded their monthly free legal services program at the Feldheym Main Library from one to two days a month. Starting in May, residents can receive legal assistance on the second Tuesday of every month from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and on the second Thursday of every month from 10 am until 2:00 pm. Many of the participating attorneys speak Spanish, or access to interpreters is available. Since launching in September, 2025, the Lawyers in the Library program has been in high demand. The program provides assistance with legal issues including consumer law, housing, public benefits, elder law, simple estate planning, and expungements. Participating attorneys are also able to refer community members to outside resources for other legal related questions. Unlike criminal cases, civil cases do not have guaranteed access to an attorney. Instead, residents who cannot afford or access a lawyer are often left to face their issues alone. Feldheym Library is located at 555 W. 6th Street in San Bernardino. For more information please call (909) 998-4251. #sanbernardino #proud2beSB #SanBernardinoCA #livinglifesb #SBPL #lawyersinthelibrary #inlandcountieslegalservices

San Bernardino City Hall Lit in Red All Week in Recognition of National Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) Awareness Day. Observed on May 5, MMIP Awareness Day honors victims and their families while raising awareness about the disproportionately high rates of violence facing Indigenous communities - especially women, girls, and two-spirit individuals. The color red symbolizes the sacred lifeblood of those lost and brings visibility to cases that are too often overlooked. The City of San Bernardino stands in solidarity with our Native community, honoring those impacted and calling for continued awareness and justice. #sbcity #sanbernardino #MMIP #mmip

Number of Homeless in the City of San Bernardino Drops by Over 23% in Latest Count! This week, the County of San Bernardino released the results from the annual homeless point in time count. We are pleased to report that in the City of San Bernardino, the number of homeless individuals identified dropped from 1,535 to 1,172 - a 23.6 % decrease!! It was just over a year ago that due to a federal injunction, most of the City's largest parks had been taken over by encampments. In the past year, the investments made by the City Council and the hard work of many are paying off. In addition to the lifting of the injunction and subsequent park cleanups, the City and its partners have been expanding its rapid rehousing program and emergency hotel vouchers, adding additional case managers, partnering with the Salvation Army for more outreach, and targeting Waterman Avenue using State encampment resolution funds. There is more work to do. Homelessness remains a challenge in San Bernardino that we continually work toward addressing. In the coming year, a new Lutheran Social Services shelter will open, and hundreds of new affordable housing units will be completed or start construction in the City. Thank you to the Housing and Homeless Division of the City, SBPD and the PEACE Team, Public Works, the County of San Bernardino, the Salvation Army, and so many more! We still need your help too. To report an encampment, use the GoSBCity app on your phone or call (909) 998-2000. #sbcity #sanbernardino #proud2besb #SBPD #sbpd #countyofsanbernardino
