happy 100th birthday to the 8th wonder of the world - Sir David Attenborough.
Those words from 2019 resonate even deeper after the global pandemic, war in Europe + the Middle East and the twin crises of biodiversity loss and climate change.
“You have a great responsibility (as landscape architects) to bring the realities of the natural world, to the understanding and the love of human beings worldwide”

We’re delighted that The Strand, Torquay has been shortlisted for the CIHT Awards – Creating Better Places Award 🌿
Reimagined as a people-first harbourfront, the scheme prioritises pedestrians while creating a flexible space for events, relaxation, and everyday use.
From sustainable coastal planting and integrated drainage to inclusive design shaped by local accessibility groups, every detail supports a welcoming, future-proof public realm.
The Grade II listed Clock Tower now sits proudly within a pedestrian space, while new seating, public art—including the Dame Agatha Christie sculpture by Elisabeth Hadley—and views across the harbour make it a place to pause and connect.
A fantastic team effort with Torbay Council leading the delivery of the project supported by a multidisciplinary team including @pja.co.uk | Kay Elliott Architects | Ginkgo Projects | Ward Williams and contractor Montel Civil Engineering

We are super excited to be attending the @the_sgld awards tonight where our Fidelity Heart Zone project has been shortlisted for the ‘built landscape design’ award!
Our design for the outdoor space at the heart of @fidelityinternational campus aims to provide a more fluid & contemporary landscape that connects people, place and nature.
The transformation employs the principles of biophilic design, where plant-rich landscapes have been proven to reduce stress, increase productivity and enhance creativity, as well as addressing issues of functionality and flow.
This was one phase of four projects across the campus and a close collaboration with @hardscape_uk@lazenbyltd@elliottwood_partnership + @hlwinternational
The Heart Zone project creates a hard working resilient landscape incorporating suds, public art, pollinator friendly planting and improved accessibility for all users.
Good luck to all the shortlisted designers!

We are delighted that @guidedogsuk Regional Centre South East is on the @riba MacEwen Award 2026 longlist for projects exemplifying architecture for the common good!
BD worked with @guidedogssoutheast and the wider design team led by Kay Elliott architects from concept design in 2021 through to completion in late 2024.
There were significant challenges and constraints with the existing site that sits within the Green Belt and with the adjacent Claybury Conservation Area that wraps around the southern and eastern boundaries.
We held workshops with the Guide Dogs’ team including their training team to understand their aspirations that was to provide safe training routes that could replicate ‘real life’ situations as closely as possible.
A linear rain garden separates the footpath from the access road, receiving surface water runoff and also providing protection to pedestrians from vehicles accessing the site.
A mix of native and ornamental planting within the car parking areas provides an element of screening, nectar and shelter for pollinators and a pleasant, welcoming approach for the site, and a welcome garden adjacent the main entrance to the building is planted with a feature multi-stem tree and sensory rich planting.
The project has achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ accreditation and is in the top 10% of UK buildings for sustainability performance and we are delighted to be on the MacEwen Award 2026 longlist with 22 other projects exemplifying architecture for the common good.
Quote from Anna Hoskyns, Senior Manager – Workplace Projects
“When we started this project, we knew that the green belt status of the redevelopment land was going to be a vital part of it, and we wanted to make sure we did it right.
Having @bd_landscape carefully add to the landscape around the new centre has given us a space that is not only a perfect space to train our dogs, but can also be used by our staff and service users to relax, and is a haven for local wildlife.” @the_sgld@landezine_com@landscapeinstitute beautifully captured by @jackhobhouse and wider team including @buro_happold@mda_consulting_ltd@boxtwenty@wearecurtins
