Very proud that our Urban Nature Project at the Natural History Museum, led by
@feildenfowles , received the Gold Award at the 2025 Wood Awards earlier this week, and was named “the UK’s best new timber project”.
The project has transformed the Natural History Museums five-acre gardens and includes two new buildings constructed in timber and stone: The Nature Activity Centre and the Garden Kitchen Cafe.
The Nature Activity Centre has been designed using solid Douglas Fir, to form an asymmetrical roof profile with large overhangs at the eaves, designed to offer outdoor learning space as well as forming part of the system to reuse rainwater.
Glulam Douglas Fir elements were adopted in the Garden Kitchen Cafe, to achieve larger and taller spaces, whilst maintaining an elegant and efficient grid.
Congratulations to everyone involved!
