𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐃 | 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐌𝐜𝐊𝐞𝐨𝐰𝐧 Get to know the team behind our projects with our ‘Get to know #TeamTODD series’… With over 20 years’ experience in financial management and practice operations, Maria brings valuable commercial insight to the senior leadership team. She plays an integral role in strengthening the practice’s internal culture, leading improvements across HR, communications and events, and helping build our reputation for valuing and supporting our people. Maria recently joined TODD's board as one of two new equity partners with finance backgrounds; a first in the practice’s history and a key step in broadening the expertise driving the business forward. We asked Maria what makes TODDs a unique place to work: “At TODD, our people are what make us truly unique. Every success stems from the dedication, creativity and collaboration exhibited across our studios. By valuing every individual across all roles and fostering growth, we’ve built a workplace where innovation and culture thrive together. This ‘people first’ approach sets us apart and makes the practice more than just a place to work, it’s a place to grow, develop, connect and be valued.” #TeamTODD #PracticeCulture #ArchitectureStudios #LifeAtTODD

𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐀 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 | 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞, 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 We were thrilled to see Custom House, Belfast recognised with the Regeneration Award at the The Royal Society of Ulster Architects Awards last night. As one of Belfast’s most recognisable civic buildings, the project presented an opportunity to carefully restore and reposition a landmark asset for contemporary use, while retaining the architectural character and heritage that define its identity. The scheme demonstrates the potential of thoughtful regeneration to breathe new life into historic buildings, supporting sustainable reuse and contributing positively to the continued evolution of Belfast city centre and waterfront. A sincere thank you to our client, Neil McKibbon and the wider consultant and contractor team for their trust, collaboration, and shared commitment throughout the project. It’s rewarding to see a building with such historic significance continue to evolve and remain an active part of Belfast’s future. #RSUA #RegenerationAward #CustomHouseBelfast #AdaptiveReuse #HeritageArchitecture BelfastArchitecture CityRegeneration

It was awarded in 1995 as the result of winning a restricted design competition (working collaboratively with WGI), with a concept plan diagram that arranged the two blocks of clinical accommodation either side a glazed central street, which was ultimately animated with artworks by local artists. It was widely regarded as having established a new standard in acute healthcare architecture in the province, reflected in it securing the RSUA’s premier accolade, the Liam McCormick prize for Building of the Year in 2000. 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐃𝟓𝟎 | 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞, 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 | 𝐑𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ A warehouse for storage. Rebuilt for making. Continuing the practice’s interest in working with existing buildings, this 1989 project on Corporation Street involved the restructuring and extension of an old stock warehouse into office space/workshop accommodation targeted at the design community. The existing deep floor plans and the need for a space to exhibit large pieces of artwork, directed the creation of a naturally ventilated atrium at the centre of the footprint. The focal importance of this dynamic space extended to the exterior and manifested in two while ceramic clad lift towers, which provided dramatic emphasise to the main entrance. 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞. 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐃𝟓𝟎 | 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 | 𝐖𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞, 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧⁣ ⁣ In the late 1980s, TODD was among the first architectural practices to move into Clerkenwell, long before it became a recognised centre for London’s design community. The practice built a strong track record in the area, focusing on the adaptation of light industrial buildings into functional, contemporary office space. Woodbridge House, on Aylesbury Street was the most notable. The basic design concept employed taking the existing lightwell and goods service yard to form an atrium, providing aspect for the office floors. Galleries and wall climbing lifts added to the visual activity of the space and provided primary circulation routes, thereby preserving usable space in the main shell. An extension at roof level in lightweight street and glass enabled advantage to be taken of views over the city. ⁣ 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞. 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐃𝟓𝟎 | 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭’𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 | 𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐭 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 Barrie Todd identified a Victorian warehouse as a development opportunity in a derelict and rundown area of Northside, close to Belfast's city centre. In what was in effect the practice’s first foray into “adaptive re-use”, the building was stripped down and restructured, to include the insertion of a mezzanine deck to create additional space. The brick walling was cleaned down and reinstated, together with the industrial roof trusses. The building became the practice’s Belfast home for over 20 years, received RIBA & Civic Trust recognition, and was an important catalyst in the regeneration of the now thriving Cathedral Quarter. 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐃𝟓𝟎 | 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 | 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞, 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 The practice’s first major commission in the late seventies, a 5-storey 50,000 sqft. office development on College Square East, that for many years was the Belfast headquarters of accountants KPMG. Locating the main core at the buildings’ corner maximised spatial efficiencies, obviating the need for unnecessary circulation to office areas. The proximity of existing Victorian buildings faced in “Belfast brick” prompted the employment of a smooth red brick, which on the buildings’ primary frontage, combined with bronze anodised framed glazed screens, in vertically orientated bays, responding to the rhythm of the streetscape.
